Ken, i just want say that I am using Hardy and i am not getting Wine from an unofficial repository but from the repo that is straight out of Wine's website, here: www.winehq.org/site/download-deb and that the latest version of wine puts steam as a platinum title.
Also, since this is the Ubuntu hardy heron distribution test results discussion page for wine version 1.1.2, i think it should be explicitly said under the instructions section, in addition to the advice already there, to 1) load steam first before running the TF2 game, 2) expect the game list to take a few minutes to load, 3)add the -dxlevel 81 to TF2 by going through the "Properties" button in steam. I just think it would be clearer like that, i don't mean to but in.
