Have you tried changing your screen resolution in the game options?
You probably have the problem where you have to "guess" where the buttons are, because they display higher than they actually are. I know this can be frustrating.
If you're not able to change the resolution in the game, try to emulate a virtual desktop (800 x 600) in winecfg and run pkr. Playing the game with the full screen option and just resizing the virtual desktop should work.
