Quick addendum, applying the TWEE_Upgrade.exe to a retail copy of The Witcher Enhanced Edition worked on Windows, so I decided to see if anything worked with the patch applied. I received an error stating,

"The Witcher is not installed properly.
Cannot be patched"

So I think my results are actually regressing, as by last night I had installation and the launcher working. Time to try a few redists prior to installation.

"fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT"
(...)
got the same error saying it can't find msvcr80.dll. Tried witcher.exe again with Microsoft.VC80.CRT folder in dir, and received the same runtime error as before with an additional (...)"

I had the same problem so I've downloaded msvcr80.dll put it in the ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/ and overrided in winecfg (I also had to do it with msvcp80.dll). Then googled for Visual Studio C++ runtime library which led me to www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&displaylang=en I downloaded it and installed and now I don't get these errors. To be honest I didn' change much in my case. Now everything I get is

"err:module:attach_process_dlls "COMMONLIBS.DLL" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\home\\pawel\\fim\\witcher\\System\\witcher.exe" failed, status c0000005"
When I try to run witcher.exe from System folder and long output about something wrong in launcher and libwine.so when I try to run launcher.exe.

But maybe this will help you.
