Another way is to install The witcher under linux , install and patch The Witcher under Windows and then erase the linux files with windows ones so at least you can register your game...Still crappy way and you still need a no-dvd crack...

I followed your steps with Ubuntu 8.10, Nvidia 8600GT, and Wine 1.1.7 and found two odd things:
1) TWEE_Upgrade.exe installs extremely quick. Like, instantly. I worry if it's not because I applied witcher.exe crack from 1.4.5 onto original witcher 1.0 release making the upgrade code think that I already have 1.4.5 and not installing upgrade stuff. Is it possible?
2) When I launch the game, I can see the initial screen, intro, wolf face, but the main menu never appears. Screen stays black. No log in console. Any idea what can be wrong?
