Ok, so in the wine graphics settings i turned off the pixel shader and both of the above mentioned problems have gone away. now i'm experiencing a similar problem to some others here of my character appearing naked etc. . .
sorry about the long post that i then figured out, i'm new with wine and didn't realize the pixel shader was in its settings and not the game settings.

Ok I know that the weird graphics that are coming from your character are actually the weapon that he/she is holding. But, I don't have an answer for anything else sorry.
