I dont have the game by myself right now, I will check if it works for me and tell you ..

It could be sound or system related issue - try runnig game in windows 98 mode and try ALSA sound or OSS sound (check one, uncheck second)

Do you have pulseaudio installed in your system ? it sometimes makes troubles ...
