1) Changing the game to use OpenGL usually has a very significant speed boost. I am using an old 1.2 GHz computer and yet it runs lightning fast and smooth under OpenGL. The problem is not so much with StarCraft, it is with the rendering engine.
2) Yes, you are right Battle.net is still a problem. However, those who posted very high did not test Battle.net so the rating only pertains to single-player.
