Ubuntu does it, but I'm running it in a chroot, so it's using Arch's /dev and /proc. If the problem was related to those, e.g. to an Arch networking setting, it would prevent it from working with Ubuntu.
I've tired it with a direct connect, and with campus wireless instead of wired, with the same results.
