I am having the same problem. I am using Ubuntu 10.04LTS and have tried with the stock 1.1.42 and 1.2 and 1.3.1 from the Ubuntu wine team PPA ( launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa ). I using an Thinkpad X61s with Intel 965GM graphics.
My problem does not seem to be opposing force related.
