I have the same problem with F3 1.7 goty. I can now start the game with no dvd patch (my main problem was described below :), but I have to use the same esc+continue+e combo. And after I open the "special" book and spend the points, daddy come back, athe the "combo" doesn't work anymore. The game "freezes" at that point, and the script doesn't continue. Now I have wine 1.2 (stable). So I'm thinking it's a bug or it is because of the no dvd patch.
