RE: graphical error

I just tried this over the weekend (steamless) and had much better luck:
set everything to medium quality and started a single player game. While I had "the blanket" briefly, it went away after about 20 seconds of moving around and ended up looking fairly good. I didn't play very long though, this was really just putzing around on top of that first building but I could see teammates and the environment pretty well and it didn't seem terribly slow either (but maybe just compared to what I expected?). I'll try to give it a more thorough run in the future.
Ubuntu 8.10, Wine 1.1.9, nvidia 177, no dx9 via winetricks (clean wine with no overrides plus some of the documented wine opengl/dx reg keys)
