Yep, I started with a clean .wine directory and everything (also used a virtual desktop). I just tried it again by skipping the videos with the spacebar, and it is actually playing the game now! I must have just been impatient and not waited long enough for the video to play all the way through. Although it is strange that I wasn't able to get any sound from the opening video that time, hmm.
Still need to get the videos to work though as that is an integral part of the game.
