I have been able to successfully run X3AP under wine 1.4 complete with movies, sound, music and voices. The performance is good and there are no visible glitches (at least during the start of scenario and some flying around the initial sector).
The bad part of these news is that I did not keep track of my tinkering (which took "on and off" 2 days) with DLLs, registry, and what additional packages I have installed. But, if I did it, you can do it too and post the proper report here ! :-)
The crash, reported in the above message, can be avoided in two ways:
1) rename devenum.dll (but then after installing and reinstalling many codecs I was not able to get the speech up).
2) set msvcrt.dll to built-in. This is what I have now.
Additionally I have full DX9 installed (which is, probably, overkill) and many one-by-one codecs (which I did not keep track of).
Anyway, the message is: running X3AP 2.0 under Wine 1.4 can be done !
