RE: no in-game voice chat

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 on desktop (specs: AMD 6400+ 3.2GHz, 8GB DDR2 800 RAM, Asus M2N-32 SLI deluxe mobo, onboard sound is HD-Intel, daughter board is an old SB Audigy LS, Graphics is 8800GTX and 7800GT) Laptop is Slack 12.0 running Intel Pentium C2D 4GB 667 RAM, 7950GTX graphics. both systems have more than enough horsepower to push this game.
Current kernel build on ubuntu is 2.6.27-13-generic
Current kernel build on Slack is 2.6.28-custom-build
Current wine version on both atm is 1.1.17 (just updated today to it)
Any other info or printout that might help, let me know. I'll be more than happy to give it up.
