I am using wine 1.3.17 out of the box and installed it from the link on this site. After ppa was added to the repository, wine1.3 did install along with other packages like winetricks. I didn't install any DLLs after that. I did add this to regedit:
DirectDrawRenderer = opengl
Multisampling = enabled
OffscreenRenderingMode = backbuffer
PixelShaderMode = enabled
RenderTargetLockMode = readtex
UseGLSL = disabled
VertexShaderMode = hardware
VideoMemorySize = 1024
I also disabled AI in the ATI Catalyst Control Center.
