How to: quick guide on Watchtower Library installation
  1. Get the actual version of wine (Watchtower Library 2010 requires wine 1.3.11 or greater. Older Watchtower Library versions require 1.1.22 or greater, 1.2 or greater is recommended. Most modern linux distributions already have it in their repositories, so you just have to install "wine" package)
  2. Insert WTLib disc and run Setup.exe. If it won't work, do this:
    wine /cdrom/Setup.exe
  3. Installer would create working shortcuts on your desktop (on some systems in home folder), and in Applications > Wine menu. Use these to run Watchtower Library. You may delete *.lnk files (if there are any), since these are of no use.

Common problems

Tooltip shadows stay after tooltips disappeared

This issue appears on some video cards with Compiz enabled. The workaround is in disabling fade animation for wine tooltips. To do this:

  1. install Compiz configuration tool. In most distributions it is in package named compizconfig-settings-manager.
  2. After you install it, run it (executable file named ccsm).
  3. Then go to Animations, open Close animations tab and double-click line that starts with Fade.
  4. Click plus sign in pop-up window,
  5. In new window select Window Class as Type, enter Wine as Value, select And as Relation and check Invert.
  6. Click Add button and you're done.

Watchtower Library 2010 does not work in wine 1.3.27 and greater

While this bug is not fixed you can fix it yourself. You need to remove a manifest for built-in version of MS runtime library. You can do this by executing the following code in terminal:

rm ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs/manifests/*.vc90.*_deadbeef.manifest

Watchtower Library 2010 does not work in wine prior to 1.3.11

You need wine 1.3.11 or greater in order to run Watchtower Library 2010.

OR, install the iphlpapi fix, DEB package (debian, ubuntu, mint etc) - RPM package (redhat, fedora, centos etc). You can then setup and run wtlib without upgrading wine to 1.3.11+.

Black blocks in interface and text on Intel video cards

If you use Intel graphics and experience blacked out text and interface items in Watchtower Library, (that is, experience bug 24998), you can fix it with following steps:

  1. Run wine regedit
  2. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/X11 Driver. Create it if it does not exist
  3. Create new String value (using context menu on right part of interface) named ClientSideWithRender and set its value to N
  4. Close (restart) all wine applications

Permissions problem with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (10.04)

In Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (10.04) and derivative distributions you may face problem where Setup.exe on the CD is not executable, and you can't set it executable, since CD is read-only. There are two possible solutions:

  1. Use wine /cdrom/Setup.exe command mentioned above, or
  2. Copy all files from CD to your hard drive, mark Setup.exe as executable (right-click the file → Properties → Permissions) and then execute Setup.exe from there.

Broken fonts

If you see squares instead of text in Watchtower Library on the first run, go to settings (press f2) and change font settings, choosing any font you like. If you see broken characters in interface, you may need to install MS truetype core fonts for web package. To do this

  • Install msttcorefonts package using your packaging system. If it fails:
  • Install it using winetricks (this will affect your wine installation only, fonts won't be available for non-wine applications):
    winetricks corefonts

Problems with XFCE, LXDE, Enlightment and others

XFCE and some other DE ignore path parameter for desktop and menu launchers. As result, Watchtower Library prior to 2011 does not start when you click these. The simple solution is to change "Command" parameter in launcher to

wine start wtlibrary.exe

Watchtower Library for Mac OSX 10.7.3 "Lion"

There are some initial issues with using the Watchtower Library in Mac. The first issue is

Installing WINE

Simple solution: watchtowerlibraryformac.info

Or, you could follow the guide in the WINE wiki about installing Macports (MacOSX Installation). It is recommended that once you have installed MacPorts you need to configure it (How to install & configure Macports)

Do not install WINE but rather install wine-devel sudo ports install wine-devel for the latest WINE version.

You should also update X11, the default version is 2.3.2 which doesn't display all of the images in the Watchtower Library. The website XQuartz MacOS Forge contains the latest XQuartz (2.6.2). Once XQuartz has been updated you can run the Watchtower Library out-of-the-box with no issues.

To set up an application to run the Watchtower Library from the dock, go to Applications -> Utilities -> AppleScript Editor

Once in the editor copy & paste the following script:

tell application "Terminal"
    do script "/opt/local/bin/wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\\ Files/Watchtower/Watchtower\\ Library\\ 2010/E/WTLibrary.exe"
end tell

Click on run to make sure it works and then click on compile if successful and then save the script as an application filetype (Leave startup screen unchecked). Once saved as an application drag it into the dock.

Missing DLL File Errors

WINE in Mac doesn't seem to look for the DLL files in the same way it normally does. The DLL files it is referring to (Such as uresearch21u.dll) are located in the "MEPS Platform 2.3" folder in the Watchtower directory. However WINE searches for them in the /drive_c/windows/system32 directory. Just copy and paste the contents of the "MEPS Platform 2.3" folder to the "system32" folder to resolve the issue.

Broken "Fetch from clipboard" function

If you copy multiline-text and a reference happens to be divided between two lines, the results can be a bit odd. This seems to be by design; wtlib seems to read the clipboard contents line by line. For example, if an article reads:

hechos recientes son más que los de antes" (Rev. 2:
19, 20).

Then wtlib will extract Revelation chapter 2, the entire chapter. This is due to wtlib reading just one line at a time. Now, in linux you can install xclip and run this command after having copied, say for example an entire article:

xclip -o | tr "\n" " " | xclip -selection clipboard -i

The command translates \newlines to spaces. If you do that before going Edit - Fetch from clipboard in wtlib, the correct references are extracted :D (Just Rev. 2:19, 20 in the example above).

You could even stick the command in a script and launch that from a button on your panel, or something.

I don't know how to do this in windows, but could be AutoIt would be a start...

What should I include when I submit a new test result?

Whether the install process went fine, or if not, what went wrong

Whether the program starts without any tweaks/modifications, or if not, what needs fixing/tweaking.

If the program runs, does the following work, or if not, what has to be done to fix/tweak it?

  • Search and navigation through the library
  • Tooltips (rest the mouse over a link)
  • Special characters like in Hebrew, and the */M signs in the Bible
  • Toolbar buttons just above the publications tree on the left, do they look good/ do they work?
  • Print (you obviously need to have a working printer setup in Linux first, wine will pick up CUPS printers at least. You can add cups-PDF printer if you have no physical printer)
  • Maps/graphics
  • Word list box
  • Add Favourites
  • Open Favourites
  • Settings
  • pronunciation (if you have a sound card and language version you are testing have this feature)
  • Synchronisation (if you have multiple languages installed)

did I forget something? just edit this note.

WARNING

Before asking for help,

  • Please make sure that you have followed the HOWTO instructions first (see above).
  • Also, make sure that your wine version is 1.1.22 or greater. In order to find out your wine version, open terminal and execute the following: wine --version. If your wine version is lower than 1.1.22, please, refer HOWTO for instructions on how to update wine.
  • If Watchtower Library code't work and you have updated your wine installation, you might need to remove .wine directory from home directory and re-install Watchtower Library in order to make it work.
If you are still here, feel free to ask for help, but when doing so, please, provide the following information:
  1. Your linux distribution and its version (For example: Ubuntu 9.10 or Ubuntu Karmic. If you don't know what version you're running, try lsb_release -a in a terminal)
  2. Your wine version (wine --version in a terminal)
  3. Which language version of Watchtower Library you are trying to install
  4. What does not work, and what have you done in order to fix it
  5. Any error messages you get

HELP YOURSELF AND OTHERS BY READING THIS

Official support for Watchtower Library on Wine

The watchtower society has no official support for wtreader on linux nor apple, as stated in the readme.txt on the installation CD.

Unofficial support

You can help yourself a lot by reading the installation suggestions BEFORE asking for help. Reading the Known Issues section you can also save us all some time.

Due to an increasing number of posts on this application page, we have to move some kinds of information, or this page would become too long & difficult to read...

We have a WIKI for putting your installation/setup suggestions into:

The wiki is moderated; see its talk page.

There other languages on the wiki also:

'International' section

Changes from last year

The main differences from watchtower library/reader 2006 are

  • the executable is called wtlibrary.exe, not wtlib.exe
  • wtlib needs a redistributable package vcredist_x86.exe, which is being installed automatically during wtlib setup
  • favourites has an external launcher program, and favourites can be saved to arbitrary locations. Favourites now work in linux.

gentoo and wtlibrary

the watchtower library for 2007 is based on C++ and runs well on gentoo latest version, gentoo-linux-2.6.26-r4

you MUST have c++ libs installed (emerge) for it to run properly, even if you install it under the wine windows installer. it works exactly as it should. the older versions of the wtlib where using a totally different software program to compile with and grab the info from the databases

I did a straight up install and it left an icon on my desktop automatically for me after being installed with wine. Browes to the CD and run SETUP and it should installfine when you tell it to open with wine

i run wine 1.1.11 i believe :) but the latest version as of 2008 dec.

if you have any problems, then i strongly suggest checking your SYSTEM with emerge system and fix any problems it comes up with

i also need to say, that as of 2007 they watchtower library DOES NOT use the same lib's or method to build as all previous versions.

It is now built on C++ Not the old dist software

thats why you must have c++ installed ion your gentoo system

any questions feel free to ask

Success!
by Gymnart on Wednesday June 3rd 2009, 9:03
I wanted to report that I was able to uninstall the 2007 Watchtower (WTLib has an uninstaller, Yay!) and I was able to install 2008 without trouble. Everything works well. (on SuSE 10.0 and Wine 0.9.42 -- I just got my WTLib2008 on Sunday [5/31/09]).

Uninstalling old versions
by Gymnart on Friday November 21st 2008, 11:34
My situation is this:
I have WTLib 2006 and 2007 installed on my SuSE 10.0 system. My version of Wine is 0.9.42 (installed from source).

I will need to uninstall WTLib 2006 and 2007. If Wine's uninstaller fails to uninstall them, how could I do that manually? I know there will be a lot of files to delete.

As for getting the new Wine, I am unsure about having the correct versions of the dependencies, since the versions that I have are now considered old. Also, I would have to install it from source since there are no rpm's available for my version of SuSE.

RE: Chinese WTLib
by David Landman on Saturday November 8th 2008, 22:10
I'm running US English locale, but don't worry about it. It works well enough for now. I'll be installing 8.10 from scratch in the coming weeks, so for now this is fine. Thanks again for all of your help.

RE: Chinese WTLib
by David Landman on Friday November 7th 2008, 22:04
Wow, thanks so much for your quick response. I'm planning on doing a full install up to 8.10 in a couple weeks, but was wondering if I could get CHS working at all. When I saw the instructions posted, I was so excited to try it out, I didn't want to wait for 8.10. Also, I am using SCIM and it works perfectly in Gnome, so I'm not really sure what the problem is. Anyway, if it works well in 8.10 then I'll just have to use copy/paste until I upgrade. Thanks again for your help.

Ubuntu 8.10 with Nvidia drivers (96.43.09 Beta) text not displaying properly.
by Chris on Friday November 7th 2008, 21:57
I found this useful when running the new nvidia beta drivers and the text would not display properly in wtlib 2007 (by improperly I mean you could not read anything), under Ubuntu 8.10.

Add the following to a blank file save it as settings.txt
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\X11 Driver]
"ClientSideWithRender"="N"

Then run from a terminal in the directory you saved settings.txt in:
"wine regedit settings.txt"

Fixed it for me might not be a problem for others but I am running with an old legacy card (but I still like my 3d acceleration.

Chinese WTLib
by David Landman on Friday November 7th 2008, 17:57
Hello, I'm currently running Wine 1.0 on Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) and successfully got the simplified Chinese version of WTLib installed and setup using the excellent how-to above. However, now I am stuck, as I do not know how to TYPE Chinese into WTLib. I do have Chinese set up and working under Ubuntu, but it doesn't seem to want to type Chinese in the Windows program running in Wine. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Works great with Wine 1.1.4
by Jonas Wasilco on Saturday September 6th 2008, 20:46
I got the 2007 version to work without to much hassle. The new Wine version 1.1.4 makes a huge difference. I'm running on Ubuntu 8.04. To get it to run, all you have to do is install the Microsoft core fonts from the Add/Remove menu, and then use the Watchtower 2007 Cd to install. From what I can see everything is working good.

Goodbye Windows, Hello Ubuntu!

Got WT Library working at last!
by Graham Lucking on Saturday July 5th 2008, 10:27
Hi friends

I had the same problems as some of you and following the advice I was able to fix them one by one but the program still would not work. I got an error message saying that a program was trying to the runtime library improperly. I had installed wine 1.1 version. Microsoft core fonts. I copied the dll files from MEPSCommon folder to the folder with WTLibrary.exe in it. So, what was the problem?

I uninstalled the WT Library. Uninstalled wine. Renamed the .wine folder .wineold and started from the beginning. Now everything works fine.

My tip? sometimes in trying to fix things you mess things up some how. My be a new install into a fresh directory/folder is what is needed.

Regards Graham

installing second language wants to deinstall first
by Eike Lantzsch on Monday June 30th 2008, 16:21
Just tried to install wtlib2007 english after wtlib2007 german. Instead of installing additionally it wants to deinstall the german one. I think this shows that it is not able to read its own registry entries correctly.
Now there is more kind of weird things:
I am installing the spanish version right now and it does install additionally to the german version. Why does the english version not?
- More food for thought.
Greetings, Eike

wtreader 2007 Platinum? here: Garbage
by Eike Lantzsch on Saturday June 28th 2008, 17:45
Running wine 1.0.0 on Debian testing, kernel-2.6.24.
Installation runs without a hitch. No special setup for wine, everything "out of the box". No juggling with dlls.
BUT - when run from the MEPSCommon folder with the environment set as recommended, the splash screen shows up but then I always get the message from wtlibrary 2007 that it cannot find its data files (rs_data I presume) and there the story ends. I traced wine with +file but could not see anything unusual. Of course I suspected the file ownership but it is set to my user all right.
Weird: wtlib 2006 (the old one with the search engine, which actually FOUND things) installs fine and runs fine. Even the tooltips work.)
Anybody has a hint or can point me to a way of further investigation?
So what might be different with my installation compared to all the others lads and lasses with Ubuntu, SuSE and so on, who reported Platinum with this App? [puzzled look]
Thanks to y'all.

installation fails
by Kevin André on Monday June 2nd 2008, 11:27
I haven't seen this problem mentioned elsewhere, so I'll post it here.

The installer suddenly fails when copying files, and gives this error message: "Are you sure you want to cancel the hard disk install? Choosing Yes will revert to a CD-ROM install." Weird, as I didn't cancel anything. The log in the installation window has a line saying "Copy failed" at the end. Pressing "No" gives the same error message again; choosing "Yes" makes the installer continue and finish successfully, but the application then refuses to run.

Some warnings I get from the installer:

warn:file:CreateFileW Unable to create file L"C:\\Program Files\\Watchtower\\Watchtower Library 2007\\O\\rs_data\\wto.vie" (status c0000022)
warn:file:CopyFileW Unable to open dest L"C:\\Program Files\\Watchtower\\Watchtower Library 2007\\O\\rs_data\\wto.vie"

warn:ntdll:NtQueryFullAttributesFile L"\\??\\D:\\ExtraTTFFont.mcf" not found (c0000034)

There is no file "ExtraTTFFont.mcf" on the cd-rom, but there is one called "extrattf.mcf".

I tried many things I found in comments on this page, like installing corefonts with winetricks, but nothing fixes my problem.

Using wine-1.0_rc3 on Gentoo.

Alert message and WTLib stop ? Please look at this
by Aurélien on Thursday May 29th 2008, 3:32
Hi everybody,

I have a little tip to make 'non roman' version of WTLib working (for my case it's a japanese version). Just find and copy wingding.ttf font file into the .wine/c_drive/windows/fonts folder.
Then you should be able to change font display by pressing F2 key and changing combobox values until the display looks fine.

You can find a topic in wine forum, where i discuss about this problem here:
forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=919

Hope this help =)
Aurlien.

Hi Teg,
Just try to copy wingding.ttf file into the .wine/c_drive/windows/fonts folder and tell me if WTLib runs by using the shorcut in your documents.

Hope this help.

Hello everybody. I am very new to linux. I am using 8.04 linux. I am on 0.9.59 version of wine. i slipped the cd into the cd rom drive, double clicked the setup.exe in the cdrom window and installed to my hard drive. now, when i go to wine > programs > and click watchtower library....it shows the picture of the guy studying on the screen and then says "watchtower library has experienced a problem and cannot continue". i would appreciate any help. the only reason i still have xp is for this program and i would love to say goodbye to Windows!!! i have looked at the wiki for this but it is confusing me. could someone give me a step by step? thanks a bunch... :)

Can you tell me what is your language version of WTLib07?

You seem to have the same problem i got from my japanese version.
Unfortunately, i did not find any tips to make it works... I'm still investigating ;-)

Really Simple Install !!!
by Billy on Sunday May 18th 2008, 10:34
Wine
When you install Wine in Ubuntu 8.04, also include msttcorefonts (Microsoft Teletype Core Fonts). I simply checked both of them for installation in Synaptic Package Manager.

Watchtower Library
Insert the CD and double click setup.exe.

Voila! Everything else is now taken care of. That message about not being able to continue is related to the fonts. Before I installed the fonts, I also had that message. There is nolonger any need for com32.dll etc. However, thanks to Mr Mepis at the link below, I discovered msttcorefonts.

I've created installation guide in russian: wiki.chya.su/pub/wtlibonlinux/

This guide includes detailed information about all known bugs and the latest fixes (including ones that will appear in wine-1.0.0-rc2).

P.S: I'd be gratful if maintainers have added this link to the top message. Thanks.

install wtlibrary easily
by james on Saturday May 3rd 2008, 20:49
ok for you people out there is an easier way for runing the Watchtower Library 2007 :

once you have finished installed the watchtower library 2007 copy all the files from the mepscommon folder in the watchtower folder into the watchtower library 2007\E folder

then run the wine WTLibrary.exe from that folder and thats all or double click the icon

no need to worry bout winetricks or anything, tested this in wine 0.9.59 on mandriva 2008.0

[Ubuntu8.04/wine0.9.60]Unable to run wtlib07

Hi,
I've just installed this new distrib with the last wine and it does not work anymore. Previously i was on ubuntu7.10/wine0.9.47 and it worked before.

I've installed vc redistribuable package just before wtlib and the installation was fine without any errors. But when i try to run (with the icon or directly) wtlib nothing happened. Then I started it with the same command written on the shortcut... and here are the errors i get:

I make another script to install Watchtower Library. In this script you can install WTLIB, download hebraic/greek fonts, ms core fonts and possibility to install comctrl32 (no required if lasttest wine).

Whis script is only in portuguese-brazilian, but if someone interest just translate to another and send me a copy to put in the same page.

Watchtower library has experienced a problem and cannot continue (WTL 2007 english)
by Patrick on Monday April 14th 2008, 16:01
Hi friends

I have a problem with the Watchtower Library 2007 english version.

I'm running wine .9.58 and have successfully installed Watchtower Library 2006 spanish and the library 2007 german. They run perfectly with tooltip and everything.

On my native XP I have a running version of the library 2007 english and I wanted to move the whole installation into linux to have all 3 version together. Unfortunately I don't have the installation-CD.

After moving the files and picking out the XP-registry settings from

HKLM/Software/Watchtower/Location
HKLM/Software/Watchtower/System/2.0
HKLM/Software/Watchtower/Synchronization
HKLM/Software/Watchtower/Watchtower Library 2007/E

and changing its settings to fit the new locations.

comctl32.dll y defined as "native, builtin", I tried to copy additional fonts from XP, vc_redist. Permissions of folders and files are correctly set.

If I run directly from console:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/patrick/.wine" wine "C:\\Archivos de programa\Watchtower\Watchtower Library 2007\E\wt.exe"

fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls"

So I ran out of posibilities for the moment, any idea would be very welcome.

I use PCLOS 2008 and just installed the latest wine (0.9.59) and everything works except the dynamic fonts (* and M) No need for the comctl32.dll to make tooltips work. And the work-around fonts are easy to find and install. This will make life easier for eveyone I'm sure.

WIne Menu Help
by Robert on Thursday March 6th 2008, 9:56
Thanks for the help in getting this installed. After two failed attempts, last night - third time was the ticket. Problem now is the Wine menu item is gone. Not a big deal, since I have the Watchtower Reader 2007 shortcut on the desktop that works. My worry is future apps installed.

The failed attempts where installing Wine from the Winehq repository, .9.56, into Kubuntu 7.10. I followed the Ubuntu instructions - not sure of the reason it failed. I removed Wine - deleted the .wine directory and decided to try the install package (WineWtlib-0.9.36.2-Linux-x86-Install) that was created. It loaded WTreader2007, yet at the end would give an error that the install failed and removed itself. The second time the installer did this I told it not to remove, but it would not work anyways. I ran the uninstall program, and deleted the directory again.

Here is where I probably took a wrong step - I noticed the Wine menu item and since all versions were uninstalled I decided no harm in removing the last traces. I edited the menu.

This morning I reinstalled Wine from the WineHQ repository, Followed the instructions for Kubuntu 7 - and all worked (thanks Tony Elmer-get post). Although I did get the splash screen on first startup, I do not get it anymore when I start it.

And now I notice the Wine menu item is not there. Any suggestions? I have limited knowledge of Linux, so I am not sure what to enter in the fields for creating a new Wine menu. Is this even necessary? Should I just live without it?

Watchtower Library has experienced a problem and cannot continue
by Domiflichi on Thursday February 28th 2008, 21:46
Hello,

I've followed the instructions on the wiki for Ubuntu (I'm running Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04), but when I launch the Watchtower Library 2007, I get the splash screen, then I get the above error. The only option is to click "OK" and the program never opens. I'm running wine version .9.33. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am new to Linux and wine.

thank you kindly,
jamie

vcredist_x86.exe license
by Dripple on Thursday February 28th 2008, 7:15
Hi,

I did not try to install wtlib 2007 yet, and I was wondering if there is any CLUF when installing vcredist_x86.exe that legally requires one to own a valid license of W$.

Anyone knows ?

font issue
by Shane on Saturday February 16th 2008, 10:53
OK, I am having a small issue with the fonts in 2007. I tried the ones referenced on the wiki and they didn't solve this issue, so if anyone has the solution, please let me know.

Everything works except on the home page with the day text. There is a small cross symbol in front of the link just above the day text, and another on just in front of the link for the weekly school schedule. A minor thing, but it really bugs me.

I found this symbol in the font using fontforge, and changed it to the arrow symbol that you see in windows. But it appears that with 2007, or maybe with the latest WINE, it now pulls the font from the temp folder instead of the fonts folder (like it is designed to do under windows). Of course that temp file gets rewritten every time you start WTLib so I can't change it there.

Has anyone else run into this? If it is now pulling it from the temp folder as in windows, why does it show a different symbol on Linux?

Fails running under Debian
by Castalia Royale on Saturday February 16th 2008, 8:58
I'm running latest stable release of Debian, Etch 4.0rev2.
I've followed the inscructions reported in the wiki page at wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Wine_Watchtower_Library_2007#Debian_4.0_.22etch.22
but when i launch the program, there is a Dialog titled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" which says
"Runtime Error!
Program: C:\P...

An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

and the console gives me these lines:

castalia@debianRut:~/.wine/drive_c/Programmi/Watchtower/MEPSCommon$ env WINEPREFIX="/home/castalia/.wine" wine "C:\\Programmi\\Watchtower\\Watchtower Library 2007\\I\\wtlibrary.exe"

Fails running under CrossOver for Mac
by Loweded Wookie on Saturday February 2nd 2008, 14:34
I've installed and the installer says it works fine but when I run the app it comes up with an error stating:

"Watchtower Library data files cannot be accessed. Please ensure that the necessary media is accessible and try again."

This is the same be it using the CDRom itself or installing to harddrive.

I can get the 2006 version running fine.

Specs are as follows:

Mac Mini:

CoreDuo 1.66Ghz
2Gb RAM
80Gb HDD
SuperDrive
Mac OS X.5 (Leopard)

CrossOver Version 6.2.1 (based on Wine version 0.9.34)

I'm picking the problem may be something to do with CrossOver running on Leopard and not configuring paths correctly. Is there a way to add the path like the Windows way under "Properties"? I can't seem to find it if there is (note I'm thinking from WineCFG as opposed to CrossOver's tools which are really nothing more than graphical tools for installing and managing bottles and apps).

I have run the separate installs as mentioned here.

Puppy 3.01 Working - Almost!
by Duncan on Thursday January 24th 2008, 9:13
Works if run from from terminal called from the MEPSCommon directory.

The desktop item script will not run it - as follows:-

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Watchtower Library 2007 - English
Exec=env WINEPREFIX="/root/.wine" wine "C:\\Program Files\\Watchtower\\Watchtower Library 2007\\E\\WTLibrary.exe"
Type=Application
StartupWMClass=Wine
Path=/root/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Watchtower/MEPSCommon
Icon=43c6_wtlibrary.0

Can anyone give the correct midifications to this script to achive the same (run from MEPSCommon) result.

Thanks

Note: New location for comctrl32.dll
by Robert Backhaus on Monday January 21st 2008, 20:15
Note that, starting with recent versions of wine, you have to place the comctl32.dll file in ":~/.wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs/x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.0.0_none_deadbeef/"
I am yet to find a straight answer as to why this is.
If that directory should change in future, the way to find the new location is:
1. Adjust your shell's or terminal's scroll buffer to some outlandish figure (10,000 lines or so) to fit all the error messages.
2. Cd to drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower/MEPSCommon/
3. run " WINEDLLOVERRIDES=comctl32=n WINEDEBUG=warn+file wine ../Watchtower\ Library\ 2007/E/WTLibrary.exe 2>&1 | grep comctl32". examine the output to see where it is looking for that file. The current line is:
warn:file:wine_nt_to_unix_file_name L"x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.0.0_none_deadbeef\\comctl32.dll" not found in /home/robbak/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/winsxs
(Note that this example uses bash output redirection, which may not work in other shells. If that command does not work, use " WINEDLLOVERRIDES=comctl32=n WINEDEBUG=warn+file wine ../Watchtower\ Library\ 2007/E/WTLibrary.exe". You will have more messages to sort through.

Install with Wine 0.9.52
by J. Addington on Wednesday January 9th 2008, 0:33
Here's what I did to install WTLIB 2007 on two systems fresh install:

1) Install with Setup.exe with no alterations
2) Launch winecfg and 'Add application' WTLibrary.exe
3) Select newly added WTLibrary.exe and choose library tab
4) Add overrides for libraries 'ole32' and 'oleaut32' and make them native
5) From Windows installation or CD (I Used Win 98), copy files 'ole32.dll' and 'oleaut32.dll' to the MEPSCommon folder in the Watchtower folder within your Wine installation's Program Files folder.
6) Install 'arial32.exe' font
Get it here : www.microsoft.com/typography/downloads/arial32.exe
7) Install 'vcredist_x86.exe' MS Visual C Redistributable
Get it here : www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32bc1bee-a3f9-4c13-9c99-220b62a191ee&displaylang=en

All Done.
