The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)
At first, nothing. The same X11 issue as I received in 1.1.5 appeared, although the error message was rather neatly formatted, suggesting Wine was now expecting this. On re-run, the problem did not surface again, thus I installed successfully. So here's what works:
Login to BYOND.
Compiling and editing in DreamMaker.
Hosting with DreamDaemon.
What does not
The usual set of 'not working' here:
Embedded icons in riched controls.
DirectX rendering of maps.
What was not tested
Well, most things were tested. OpenGL wasn't tested because it is a feature that isn't supported by BYOND, however I suspect it hasn't regressed.
Usual business. Quite a few strange quirks about how it handles custom interfaces, scaling etc. Hard to say if this is Wine or BYOND sometimes.
For the people attempting to fix bugs, if you are in need of a test environment, I have made one. It requires that you first download the BYOND Suite and install it, then simply compile the environment.
Go to File -> Preferences -> (Games Tab) -> Uncheck Download Music and Sound Effects.
This will disable sounds but give you a performance boost.
You can also enable "Use Graphical Hardware for displaying maps" on the same tab. This gives you a good performance boost. It's on by default.

Wine 1.5.28 xubuntu 12.10
by CunningStuntBonus on Saturday April 20th 2013, 15:34
A slight update.
Wine 1.5.28 on xubuntu 12.10 fixes the keyfile problem I was experiencing.
I did still install it to My Documents just to be sure and gave read/write permissions across the entire BYOND folder and this is what I found;
When you log on you get a prompt box saying connecting to game, close it, it does nothing.
Ingame menus inherit XFCE's current theme, which can be problematic.
On the first run, the game is sluggish, menus do not work properly and you will need to close byond completely and restart.
Some ingame menus do not refresh well, the robotics cyborg fabricator menu does not auto-update, you need to close and reopen the window.
Key File Error
by ZackW on Monday March 25th 2013, 19:41
It looks like wine has some issues with accessing files in folders that are hidden like .wine, as that's what pops up in the terminal when you get that Keyfile error. The way to solve this problem is to install BYOND outside of program files. When installing, tell it to install it to "My Documents" that will install the game to home/BYOND, and the keyfile problem will be solved. I have also noticed in some distributions that upon joining a game such as Space Station 13, the chat box will flood with "cannot read cache file" messages. The way i fix this is to give all of the files in BYOND/cache full read/write permissions. You may have to do this every time you start BYOND, asevery time I go to change those permissions, i notice that they are back to what they were before. Only the "others" catagoty changes though, leading me to beleive that that is the only permission you need to change to full permissions.
