HOWTO

As of wine v1.2 this is no longer needed.

As at Wine v0.9.58 Battlefield Vietnam works well, but there are some changes that need to be made to get it working and you have two choices, they are both simple and it really depends on whether you want to play the game full screen or not.  I would strongly recommend that you run BFV in a window, but the choice is yours

Option 1
Start winecfg, go the Graphics tab and select "Emulate Virtual Desktop" and enter a valid resolution (I used 1024x768). Once that is set you can launch the game in a window and it seems to all work fine.

Option 2
If you need to run the game full screen you can change "renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1" in "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield Vietnam\Mods\BfVietnam\settings\VideoDefault.con" and that seems to work also, although when the game exist my screen resolution is stuck at the game resolution.

playing over hamachi
by Andy on Wednesday June 17th 2009, 7:02
Hi!

I`m trying to play a network game using hamachi, however i cannot connect to a windows machine, and it cannot connect to me (we both use the same version of hamachi). When one of us creates a LAN game, another doesn`t see the created server. Any ideas how to make it work? The game is patched to version 1.21

DVD rip
by Nick Corriveau on Wednesday October 29th 2008, 20:23
I got tired of installing games so often with xp i simply ripped the files via the dvd, and made it playable without an install. Now converted for linux, exectuing the EXE via wine works fine, as long as it is not FULL SCREEN, which is a bummer

Full screen works fine
by Dean Hamstead on Friday October 10th 2008, 5:23
full screen works fine for me.

you can also get widescreen going if you edit the Video.con files

format is

height width colordepth refresh

ie

1680 1050 32 50

although when playing lan or internet, when the map changes sound dies :(

you can start Battlefield Vietnam via a script which has following line in the end:
xrandr -s 0
this will reset your resolution.
