HOWTO

(Last Updated:2009-05-12 for Wine Version:? )

Here's a howto for wine versions 1.1.0 pr newer

start up with a clean install of wine, by using the WINEPREFIX environment variable.

It is possible to run Dreamweaver without mdac and internet explorer. Just run:

wine "Install Dreamweaver MX.exe" (I have a licensed version)

and ignore the "This program requires mdac 2.6" warning. It is recommended however to install the Mozilla Activex Control with flash player plugin. Please see Howto section of Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 for more details on this.

To use internet explorer as the default browser for Dreamweaver preview mode, here's how:

Download this file: http://www.kievinfo.com/2/ie6_overrides.reg (File does not exist use winetricks to install ie6 )
Run wine regedit ie6_overrides.reg
Download dcom98
Run wine dcom98.exe
Run rm -f ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/regsvr32.exe
Download and run wine ie6setup.exe
Install mdac_type.exe:
wine mdac_type.exe
Run the dreamweaver installer
Run winecfg and add msvcrt.dll to the libraries as native, builtin (to avoid dreamweaver crashing when clicking on the fireworks button to launch fireworks within dreamweaver)

1.1.0 sometimes experiences hangups on the splash screen. This is because Dreamweaver seems to scan all drives. It seems to have a "hangup" when it scans mounted windows partitions. To let dreamweaver go up fast, just remove drives (in winecfg) that inadvertently goes to those mounted windows partitions.

Had to delete z: symlink to avoid apparant hang
by Dan Kegel on Friday July 25th 2008, 5:45
Dreamweaver MX seemed to hang while putting up
the splash screen. WINEDEBUG=+file wine dreamweaver.exe
showed that it was busy enumerating files in /proc.
Doing rm ~/.wine/dosdevices/z: solved the apparant hang and
let the app start properly.

Starts fine for me
by Dan Kegel on Saturday January 26th 2008, 14:54
Dreamweaver MX seems to install and start fine
for me with wine-0.9.53 or so, without IE or
any native DLLs.

Fatal exception with some PNG files
by Robin Bankhead on Sunday June 11th 2006, 3:48
I installed Dreamweaver on vanilla wine-0.9.13 (now 0.9.14) on Gentoo, via the preconfig and install methods detailed above. It has been stable except for this one problem with some .png files, which I created in Fireworks MX.

When a page containing an affected .png is encountered, Dreamweaver hits a fatal exception and crashes.

If selected via the Insert Image dialog, the following error dialog appears before the crash:

"While executing objectTag in Image.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occurred:
At line 17 of file "Z:\home\robin\.wine\drive_c\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX\Configuration\Objects\Common\Image.js":
exception throw in native function"

Not really a lot to go on. Is anyone else getting this?

Success with wine 0.9.2!
by Dan Kegel on Friday November 25th 2005, 16:42
I installed Dreamweaver MX with Wine 0.9.2 (really, today's CVS)
and aside from a few hangs described in
bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3690
it seems to work! I used it to upload a trivial web site.

Can't create a new site
by Addi on Sunday March 13th 2005, 18:41
I'm on Ubuntu warty/wine 20050310 and the install went smoothly. I got a message about needing MDAC 2.6, downloaded that and the whole thing went great.

I haven't played much but it seems to be running OK, except I can't create a site. When I try to, the Site settings window pops up, but it is blank and no amount of clicking gets anything out of it.
