Additional Comments
1- Go to Sony's Station login and activate Pirates of Burning See (which is now free).
2- winetricks vcrun2005 msxml3 msxml2 d3dx9 corefonts physx
3- Install the Station Launcher (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=19166)
4- Start the Station Launcher and login. Click on PotBS, to install the game.
5- The tricky part is here, if you start the game now, it would crash (out of memory). You need to download the following application "http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php".
6- unzip it and copy it's content in the PotBS folder.
7- Open a terminal, go the PotBS folder and type "wine 4gb_patch.exe PotBS.exe"
8- Go back to the Launcher and start the game.
When you be in the game for the first time, you'll see nothing except NPC's name. Hit escape, go to the video option and activate the shader. You are now ready to play.
Important thing regarding step 7. At each startup, the Station Launcher will do a scanning and replace the modified PoTBS.exe by the original. You will need to repeat step 7 before pressing "Launch Game". Please understand that modifying the PotBS.exe is likely to be forbiden by the EULA (even if it's for a good cause). Doing step 7 could result to have your PotBS or your Sony accounts banned.

after portallus move over
by zozo6015 on Monday March 11th 2013, 16:09
I have installed the game successfully.
The game started after I have installed vcrun2005 in wine trick.
the server list does not come up. On the forum I read that it would come up after the port 7000 error. I have waited about 5-10 minutes and still nothing. If someone has some idea I am open to try it.
Critical Error
by Michael on Tuesday August 9th 2011, 0:56
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and Wine 1.3.26. I have installed vcrun2005, msxml3, d3dx9, corefonts, and physx. Initially I received an error that the d3d9.dll was too old of a version, but I downloaded an updated version and no longer see that problem. Now, my log consists primarily of errors that say "Could not create DOM object for XML File..." for multiple different files and I still get a critical error and crash.
Freeze at Splash
by ryeguy on Friday February 4th 2011, 17:48
When trying to launch the PotBS, I get to the splash screen displaying the Platform Publishing logo, and it freezes. Absolutely nothing. No errors, no warnings. I've tried this on the git version of wine as well as the newest stable (1.3.12) and got the same result. I have followed the instructions found here (d3dx9, etc.). Any suggestions?
Working under 1.3.10
by Brian R on Saturday January 1st 2011, 9:31
I was able to get PotBS working on OSX 10.6.5 / wine 1.3.10 by installing wine-devel with macport and then d3dx9 with winetricks.
At the login screen, I had some shader-related errors and my character wouldn't render. After logging in, I turned off shaders in the options menu of the game and everything rendered fine! Finally! :)
Graphics problems in 1.1.2
by Adam on Friday August 1st 2008, 19:57
I recently upgraded Wine from 1.1.0 to 1.1.2 and now I am having graphics problems. On the open sea, and in towns underneath alpha blended UI elements, there is a very bad flickering.
Broken Swordplay Animations
by Mike Bronner on Sunday June 29th 2008, 13:45
Has anyone been able to play with swordplay animations? From the gold rating given above, it would appear that these have been addressed? I gave a silver rating, because I have yet to find a way to get the animations to show.
Emotes don't work.
by Olleg Samoylov on Tuesday April 22nd 2008, 19:27
Not only attack animations, but emotes don't work too. Not only emote animation, the game don't accept emotes at all. This lead to problems with "lovely" quest, for instance.
