What works
UltraEdit install completed successfully and installed icons as requested. I did not complete the UltraCompare or toolbar installers, but these were launched. UltraEdit was started from the installer as was the welcome page in Ubuntu's Firefox 3.
On launch, UltraEdit upgraded my menus and toolbars from version 12.20. The File Association page appeared and did not error out - I am not sure if it did anything though. The Quick Start Guide appeared with just the UE logo, so I told it not to appear again. It asked me if I wanted to upgrade to the latest version (which I didn't do). The registration window all works nicely (I checked all the buttons then registered with my legit registration code).
The UltraEdit window was correctly drawn. Resizing windows/tabs/etc seems to work.
The following features were tested:
Open/Quick Open/FTP Open (works fine from File->FTP->Open from FTP)
Close
Save/Save As/Save As To FTP
Make backup
All Format menu items (apart from HTML Validation)- XML/Lint stuff was tested though
All Column menu items
All Macro menu items
All scripting menu items
All Window menus - which work apart from apart from Minimise all Windows
All Help menu items
Scripting - added and used the reverseLine.js example script, then removed it. This worked perfectly
The following text editing features were tested:
Tab/Shift tab to indent text
Syntax highlighting (C++ and XML)
Macros were briefly tested and no errors were encountered (Load/Save/record/playback/macros window).
Telnet works well and Ultra Compare Lite works
What does not
Quick Start Guide appears blank, but if you scroll down, the text is off screen at the bottom.
The Configuration window appears strange, but works.
FTP Open from recent files hangs for several minute, but eventually succeeds
UltraEdit is VERY slow when carrying out FTP account options, but it hasn't failed yet.
"Window"->"Minimise All Windows" causes a prompt saying uedit32 should be shut down, and it dies.
Prompts usually appear behind the Quick Start Guide, (i.e. file not in DOS format, registration). You have to go and find them as you can't clear the Quick Start Guide until they have been cleared.
As with version 12.20, the Help files all appear in one font, all the toolbar icons have the printer icon, and the Index and Search tabs do not work. The in help controls also fail and graphics do not appear.
Set Printer font --> Blank error message. Maybe because I don't have a printer, but it's still blank.
Projects window - Add file appears behind the project window, so you wait for it for a long time...
Restore project does not appear to work, the Restore button is always greyed out.
The application occasionally reports a "fatal error" on exit
What was not tested
HTML Validation
CTAG files
Ultra Compare Lite, apart from opening some files in it, which worked perfectly. The application works correctly, but takes a little while longer to launch than on Windows.
