What works
Dedicated Server starts up fine and GUI selection works (but very flakey on remote X over a network).
What does not
Dedicated server starts up fine, but windows clients running rfactor can't connect. The server once started does not show in the list of available servers to connect to for local lan. Tried to directly connect by explicitly connecting via IP and still no dice ("no games available") - Sooo close.:(
The client (actually running the game) does not even come close. It probably would not be worth it anyhow due to there being no drivers for racing wheels in LINUX.
Below is the text output from the command line when running the dedicated server. There are some errors but I'm not sure if this is what is causing the problem.
What was not tested
Installation (copied rfactor folder from windows box)
Additional Comments
The app is like 99% there. Just something fundamental which keeps clients from seeing that the server is advertising. I'd be willing to work with ANYBODY to get this fixed as this keeps us tied to running rfactor server on windows boxes (yuk!)
There were some errors in the Log file. Not sure if this is causing the problem though.

Error compiling vertex shader message
by Steve on Wednesday December 8th 2010, 10:28
Hi
I have installed rFactor with wine 1.3.8 and and updated the video memory size in regedit and mentioned in the installation guide in wine HQ but when I try to start the game a 'fatal error compiling vertex shader vs 11_blinnBumpTO' message comes up. I did not install the directx drivers when asked during the installation. The graphics card is an onboard ati HD 4200 with 128mb onboard memory and I have installed the ati catalyst control center and the ATI/AMD FGLRX drivers are installed.
No Longer need No CD

If you install ie6 though winetricks, you can activate rFactor normally. Remember that it will cost you an activation, but if you run out of activations, ISI will reset them for you if you ask nicely.

Dedicated server 1255
by Doug Baggett on Monday April 7th 2008, 20:55
Has anybody ACTUALLY connected to the dedicated server after running it? I can fire up the dedicated server just fine but my client on the windows side can't connect to it. No games show up in the LAN server list and directly specifying an IP does not work.
