This game need the d3dx9_**.dll files, specially the d3dx9_36.dll. You can install it with the guide or placing it in the game folder.
Also you can install this game by Steam using this link. Also works well, but the ingame chat does not works
POL installation script
One user that test my POL installation script tell that with win2k game run smoother, can't confirm it because I didn't notice any changes.
If you want automatic installation you can get installation script from POL site and use it with Custom Script install feture of POL:
http://www.playonlinux.com/en/topic-1528-TrackMania_Nations_Forever.html
Also with POL you can easy check how game working with different wine versions.

Where do I put new cars?
by Kaiwen Luan on Wednesday March 20th 2013, 3:31
I downloaded a bunch of 3D Models off Trackmania Car Park. Where do I put them in order for them to show up in the game?
tmnationsfover in MacOSX10.6.8
by Pedro on Tuesday January 22nd 2013, 17:04
What I did:
1. downloaded directly from official website and instaled with wineskin-winery-1.7
2. started the game by registering an account and profile
3. tried to play but the game does not start
...3.1 tried to play online but when i select a track (server?) the game shuts down
...3.2 aborted connection and chose to play alone, select the track, starts to load but when is 100% the game shuts down.
I've read the comments about d3dx9_36.dll but the windows/system32 folder from that wrapper already has it, so the problem does not seem to be that one.
I have sound in every menu and everything else seems ok.
Fix for flickering and/or blurry graphics
by BitMaster on Saturday July 28th 2012, 20:42
I had flickering graphics when setting Shader Quality to PC3 (High or Low). To fix this I changed the AlwaysOffscreen registry setting to enabled. This also fixes extremely blurry graphics (only ingame, not in the menu) even when enabling anti-aliasing with just 2 samples.
You should also set your VideoMemorySize to your own size (Look in the Launcher -> Configure -> Advanced in the right top corner, you'll see there's not a lot of memory available).
installer hang caused by partial download
by Dan Kegel on Saturday January 22nd 2011, 17:01
Hmm. I just had the installer hang at "0% extracting" before even getting to the first question. Turned out I had a short download;
tmnationsforever_setup.exe was only 3MB. Deleting that and
downloading the real one fixed it.
Crashes
by Daniel Rotter on Sunday May 9th 2010, 11:52
The game crashes in special situations at my laptop. It's always at the same passages of a track, and i get the following message, if i start the game in a terminal:
err:d3d:wined3d_event_query_test Event query created despite lack of GL support
err:d3d:IWineD3DEventQueryImpl_GetData The GL event query failed, returning D3DERR_INVALIDCALL
bo(0x69fd1be8, 98304) is mapped (-1) can't valide it.
invalid bo(0x69fd1be8) [0xD3894000, 0xD38EC000]
The two err's at the beginning i receive very often during the game, but it does not affect the gameplay. The last two lines appear when the game crashes.
Version
by tehdog on Monday April 19th 2010, 10:06
Hi,
I just realized my "review" wasn't from 2.11.11 but from 2.11.26, which is the version from 2010-03-15. There were very many fixes and changes since 2.11.11.
I'm not sure if that version difference changes things in wine, can somebody check or just rename this to only "Nations Forever"?
Crashing after each race on Mac
by Ich on Wednesday March 31st 2010, 11:18
Hi,
I've got it running on Mac OS X with version 1.1.35 and 1.1.41. At least with PC2 graphics settings it runs very well. My only problem is, that after one finishes a race and clicks "OK", the game crashes.
Any ideas how to solve this?

Installed Trackmania Nations Forever with ;
- didn't do the d3dx9_36.dll fix nor add any other d3d*.dll (no need);
- sound still needs the fix (wasn't working for me);
Game runs incredibly smooth with graphics settings on maximum
settings screenshot: img713.imageshack.us/img713/3391/38645759.png notes:
- even though 'Motion Blur' is not active, it does work (tires my eyes...);
- with 'PC3 High' setting cars are rendered normaly (don't appear invisible).
Can't say a benchmark result since the results always come up with zero, but i'd say the game runs almost as smooth (if not equaly smooth) as if ran on the OS to which it was designed for :)
Crashes with PC3 shaders
by Lauri Niskanen on Monday June 15th 2009, 9:52
If you get occasional crashes, try lowering the shader value on the game settings from PC3 to PC2. PC2 never crashes for me, but PC3 causes bug #16456.
Does Virtual Skipper work under Wine?
by Anonotroll on Thursday October 9th 2008, 5:01
Nadeo publishes both Trackmania and Virtual Skipper, and I understand that both games share the same basic engine.
However, unfortunately there's no information here at Wine HQ about Virtual Skipper.
I'm hoping that if you people can get Nadeo's Trackmania to work under Wine, then it should be possible to get Virtual Skipper to work too.
I don't have a Linux-based computer yet, but if Virtual Skipper can run under Linux, then I'm buying one for sure.
Would one of you mind trying the demo download of Virtual Skipper, and see if the same techniques that worked for Trackmania under Wine, will also work for Virtual Skipper?
Problem with fonts(?)
by AK on Sunday June 29th 2008, 13:48
I installed the game on Kubuntu Hardy and Wine 1.0 and it seemed to install ok. However, when the main screen shows up (spinning globe), I don't see any of the menu characters. I can only see a blurred rectangle that I suppose is the menu background. Any ideas how to solve this?
Microsoft DirectX should *not* be installed in Wine
by Ben Klein on Saturday June 21st 2008, 21:10
Whoever wrote that Install HOWTO: Can you please remove the link to the wine-review blog about installing DirectX in Wine? The correct method would be to download the required d3dx9_36.dll from a site such as DLL-files.com, not to install the full Microsoft DX and override other unnecessary DLLs.
Microsoft DirectX actually does more harm than good in Wine. It has been known to break things quite badly. The d3dx9_**.dll files are effectively external to DirectX and will function correctly in Wine without installing the full DirectX subsystem.
Problems with online playing
by Toni Filgueras on Friday June 13th 2008, 9:35
Online mode doesn't work for me. I've managed to run TM correctly on single player mode, but it crashes when a map is loaded (just before playing in the actual track)
Logs are too long to paste here, and I don't get the same error every time.
I'm using wine 1.0~rc4 on ubuntu 8.04. Any idea?
Please, correct
by Vasilchenko Konstantin on Tuesday May 27th 2008, 3:17
please correct your post, the sound bug solution was found by PlayOnLinux script creators, during creation of the script for automatic installation of Trackmania
www.playonlinux.com/fr/topic-1453-2.html abelthorne telled about it, but didn't post the link to forum.
got it working except the sound, But, I'm getting insanely low fps. my gfx is an old nvidia 5900xt (yes, not the latest and fastest but should give me more than 1 fps) and my drivers are fine, glxgears gives me 5200fps
Gold Medals don't work.
by superppl on Thursday May 1st 2008, 15:09
Interesting little problem, and I don't really understand why, but challenging gold medals in solo mode doesn't seem to work. The game just crashes, and I gave it a few minutes to be sure.
Besides that the game runs great! Big plus for linux since this is one the best racing games out there (much better than need for speed or what not since those don't challenge skill like this game does). :)
Sound: What worked for me.
by Chris Le Sueur on Friday April 25th 2008, 17:44
Not only did I have to download the openal32.dll file, and put it in the game folder (not the system32 folder as I originally tried!) but I had to rename it to OpenAL32.dll, and now sound works.
The music is still a bit crackly, but you can actually hear sound, not just little pops! I think this may be a bug in WINE's workings with openal.
Here's my sound setup:
SB Live 5.1
ALSA both in Linux and in winecfg
TMNF settings Basic, Normal and High all tested
I should also add that shader level PC1 works for me, but anything higher does not - the menus are blurry boxes.
