Additional Comments

The time has come that EuroGunZ admins have added an anti-hack system. This is probably the cause of this "Start Error".

EUROGUNZ FOR PLAYING GUNZ IN LINUX: THE END
EuroGunz admin recently added a dll to his server to prevent people from playing EuroGunZ in a virtual machine. This is completely stupid as I don't understand how we could hurt the server by playing in a VM and this is greatly annoying for the linux GunZ players community as VM's were a new possibility of trying to play GunZ in Linux, raising hope in our hearts again. I had already mailed him long before to explain him it was important for us not to add an anti-hack system to his server but he didn't even answer to me and added the anti-hack feature some weeks later as he had planned to. Now, that new dll is making us unable to play GunZ in VM's and worse, wine is also considered as a VM by this new "gunzprotect" system. I think this is clear enough. Vitor, EuroGunZ admin, does not want us on his server and will, by all means, prevent us from playing on it. Forget EuroGunZ now and forever. Do not even reboot on Windows to play it because EuroGunZ launcher contains a trojan since the first releases but as it was unharmful for wine, it is not the case for a real Windows system. All this is only reliable to EuroGunZ server. Other private servers or even the official server are not to take in this state of mind. Anyway, I still haven't found a working private server to play on trough wine. At the moment of this writing (June 2, 2009), your best chance to play GunZ under Linux is to use a Virtual Machine and a Windows Guest but it's not fast enough to let you play correctly, perhaps if you have a very powerful gaming pc but I don't have any so I can't test it. Maybe the future will give us better DirectX 9 performances in VM and GunZ would be some kind of playable, let's hope...

WARNING

We got it working with versions 6 and 7.1 of EuroGunZ launcher. You must have the last version of the launcher to be able to connect to the server.

Perhaps, if they make changes to the server or to the launcher, we could not get it working anymore.

On the 24 of August 2008, EuroGunZ was playable under Linux.

EuroGunZ 7.1 : Working!
by Dave on Sunday August 24th 2008, 7:04
Sometimes it launches without sound, sometimes it's crashing at loading...
You will usually need to lauch it twice to get it working perfectly, but it will work! =)

Howto coming soon.

I tried to contact EuroGunZ admin to show him how important he and his server are for GunZ playability under Linux. Wait and see.

Hardware incompatibility
by Dave on Wednesday June 11th 2008, 14:52
Ok. I got it running on my brother's computer.
I reinstalled a fresh system aside mine and I couldn't log in, the game crashed in the same way as usual.
So here is the point: My hardware isn't supported by wine.
How could I improve this? Telling the devs? How? What system informations do I have to give them?
Can I only hope this problem to be solved one day or am I going to buy a new pc to get it working? x)
What are your processors? For comparison with mine...
My brother's is AMD Athlon 64 and mine is Intel Core 2 Duo (P4 3Ghz dual-core)

I want to try this game too, but what is the "special launcher" you guys are talking about? I know that it's probably a modified launcher that doesn't load xtrap, but where do I get it? Or could you *please* provide a name?

1.0
by Tilo Wiklund on Sunday June 1st 2008, 17:31
Just tried it in 1.0-rc3, still seems to work fine, here at least.
I'll try running the game on my laptop tomorrow (I hope it can handle it).

Stack limits
by Dave on Saturday May 31st 2008, 4:05
Ok, the sound bug is fixed.
Now I encounter a problem connecting a server!
Here is the last two lines in the console:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000005 at address 0x7cabfdc6 (thread 0029), starting debugger...
err:seh:raise_exception Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to dispatch exception.

MSXML
by Tilo Wiklund on Wednesday May 28th 2008, 16:48
The sound bug is easily fixed by copying all the MSXML (msxml(3/r/a)) DLLs into the wine "windows" directory.
