-I used a no cd hacked GTR2.exe from nogripracing.com available elsewhere as well.
-the launcher on the install cd requires mfc42.dll however setup.exe will successfully install the game without the dll. the dll does not seem to do anything for the game itself at all.
=changing the shader level to Directx8 in the configuration utility unlocks more graphics options in game.
