Additional Comments

(in wine) emulate a virtual desktop, don't allow the window manager to decorate the window, Windows 2000 (dunno if that makes a difference but that's what I've got it set at)(baldur.ini)(it's in the installation folder) set Full Screen=0 If you are having difficulties with the Bauldur's gate Config program when trying to set higher resolutions, move the window as far to the side as you can before running the test and you will be able to see and click through dialogue boxes to success..

and see here http://www.gibberlings3.net/readmes/readme-widescreen.html for a windscreen mod that works nicely

Multiplayer via Directplay
Mentioned in a comment by zsolty_szasz:

Multiplayer can work, but requires some setup first.

The problem is with the current DirectPlay implementation. Read here how to set it up: http://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlayGames

To get multiplayer working for games that use a DirectPlay version prior to 8, place the following DLLs:
dplayx.dll, dpnet.dll, dpnhpast.dll and dpwsockx.dll in this archive in WINE's windows/system32 directory, then add DLL overrides (native, builtin) with WINECFG.

HOWTO
In case of any problems be sure to see the instructions on http://wiki.winehq.org/Infinity_Engine_Games
