Neverhood Sound
by Rodney on Tuesday January 22nd 2013, 0:32
Hey guys.
I'm havving sound issues with The Neverhood.
I'm using windows XP, the game runs very well, save/load works fine but some sounds don't work, like music not playing at all and at the Disc monitor i can't hear Willie talking either ! Even if i run the game in Windows 95 compatibility it's still the same :/

Can someone please help me with this issue ?

Thank you :)

Installing Neverhood
by Patrick Gillespie on Thursday January 19th 2012, 22:29
The link to the Czech site is nothing but bad command lines. The link to Frank's corner is dead. I'm not a command line guru, but I've tried to clean it up. If it doesn't work, just use your file browser to copy and paste. Please correct my lines if *I've* made any mistakes. So, for the next person, here's what worked for me (Ubuntu 11.10):

Copy the following, one at a time, into your terminal:

mkdir ~/.Neverhood
mkdir ~/.Neverhood/cdrom
mkdir ~/.Neverhood/cdrom/DATA
cp /media/Neverhood/DATA/* ~/.Neverhood/cdrom/DATA/

If this last line doesn't work, simply open a file browser and copy the contents of /DATA on the cdrom to the same folder in your newly created .Neverhood/cdrom/Data/ folder.

cd ~/.Neverhood
mkdir DATA
mkdir SETUP
ln -s ~/.Neverhood/cdrom/DATA/hd.blb. ~/.Neverhood/DATA/hd.blb
cp /media/Neverhood/SETUP/Smackw32.dll. ~/.Neverhood/SETUP/
cp /media/Neverhood/Setup/NHC.exe ~/.Neverhood/SETUP/

mkdir creates a folder
ln -s creates a symbolic link.
cp simply means copy.

edit the system.reg file in your .wine folder (which is in your home folder)

gedit ~/.wine/system.reg

If for some reason that doesn't work, use nautilus or thunar to navigate to the folder and open system.reg.

Add the following to the end of the file. Where you see the line "PID", replace NO (in quotes) with the serial number beneath the picture of the install window. If this is unclear, visit the Czech site.

[Software \\DreamWorks Interactive\\ Neverhood]
"Data Drive"="E:\\.Neverhood\\cdrom\\"
"PID" = "No"
"Installed Directory"="E:\\.Neverhood"
"Run File"="E:\\.Neverhood\\NHC.EXE"
"KBPS_OTHER"=dword:ffffffff
"KBPS"=dword:ffffffff
"Installed"=dword:00000001

The Czech link says something about no having a home directory folder and issuing the following command:

Wine cokolinesmyslneho

This command made no sense to me. I didn't issue it and everything worked fine.

Next, open up winecfg, click on discs tab, and define drive E: as your home directory, whatever it is. Remember not to include a "/" at the end. If Drive E: is already used, choose an unused drive designation and change system.reg accordingly.

E: /home/[name of your home directory]

Next, add the NHC.exe application and set the Windows version to Windows 98.

Finally, it only looks acceptable if you run it in a window. The final command at the Czech site is also incorrect.

Try the following:

wine explorer/desktop=ref,800x600 "E:\.Neverhood\SETUP\NHC.EXE"

Lastly, if you're using Ubuntu, make sure you're using the very latest version of wine. My first attempt stuttered and fizzled out because I wasn't using the PPA version of Wine.

can't use fullscreen
by Fabrizio on Monday January 21st 2008, 15:05
If i try tu run the game with no virtual desktop, i get 2 message box that tell me:

*DD_ERRUNSUPPORTED

*Unable to Initialize Directdraw.

Running from the console i get:

fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps OpenGL implementation supports 32 vertex samplers and 32 total samplers
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps Expected vertex samplers + MAX_TEXTURES(=8) > combined_samplers
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x34f45c,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:xrandr:X11DRV_XRandR_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 8
err:xrandr:X11DRV_XRandR_SetCurrentMode Resolution change not successful -- perhaps display has changed?
fixme:winmm:MMDRV_Exit Closing while ll-driver open

If i use virtual desktop, everething's nice, but i'd like to play it in fullscreen; any ideas of what's happening?

DirectX 3
by Gegsite on Saturday September 8th 2007, 15:19
First an error dialog came in:

"Error Querying Registry Key ProgramFileDir

After clicking Install buton

"An internal error occured"

then

"installing failed"

then exit.

I have in wincfg defaulted windows98 as commented ( I tried with other 95, XP too)

What to do with that?
