Errors/Crash on 1.1.43
by Taran'li Maren on Sunday May 2nd 2010, 15:52
Trying to get it to work on 1.1.43. It loads, with a fair bit of graphic corruption, but is basically playable until I make contact with a native or other colonist. At this point the game crashes.
err:d3d_surface:surface_download_data >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glGetCompressedTexImageARB @ surface.c / 601
err:d3d_surface:surface_download_data >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glGetCompressedTexImageARB @ surface.c / 601
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0xffffff04 at address 0x7bc49238 (thread 003c), starting debugger...
I believe the first two are related to the graphic corruption, as they crop up earlier as well, including during the loading when a messed up logo is displayed (the one with the bink, gamespy, etc logos).
My uneducated guess would say this is a video driver problem. I am using the latest proprietary ati driver (Ubuntu 9.10, ATI Radeon 5770).
Ubuntu 9.10 + Wine 1.1.40 Colonization Fail
by usererror on Tuesday March 16th 2010, 20:33
Trying to get Colonization 1.01f to work with wine 1.1.40 and no dice. Used suggetions from previous wine versions below none work. Have started over several times.
Continually get errors:
err:menubuilder:Process_Link unable to load L"C:\\Colwin\\CivilizationIV.ini.lnk"
err:menubuilder:WinMain failed to build menu item for C:\Colwin\CivilizationIV.ini.lnk
fixme:cursor:CURSORICON_CreateIconFromANI Loading all frames for .ani cursors not implemented.
Sadly I'm not good enough at Linux to troubleshoot these errors. On a side Note StarCraft works GREAT!
White textures with 'radeon' driver
by Gael Le Mignot on Friday February 5th 2010, 8:40
On my ATI Technologies Inc RV535 [Radeon X1650 Series] card with the free radeon driver, I've totally white textures for the terrain, making the game unplayable (requiring to click on all titles to be chose a colony location, ...).
I was also forced to disable hw pixel and vertex shaders in winecfg, or the game crashes at startup. On normal Civ4 and BTS I'm forced to disabel them too, but the game works, unlike the Colonization one.
graphics corrupted with ati/amd radeon 4600
by John on Saturday November 28th 2009, 8:25
hi,
is used to have an nvidia card and colonization ran without issue, now that I have changed to the radeon 4600 series card I get display corruption around the "edges" ie the globe and the dialogues are fuzzy.
What can i do to fix this?
I have also submitted a screenshot.
thanks

Ubuntu 8.10, Wine 1.1.9 - update
by the_drain on Tuesday April 21st 2009, 22:16
After reinstalling 8.10 (Wine 9.04 seemed to break Colonization 1.0.1)...
I reinstalled Colonization 1.0.1. All I _needed_ for it to run perfectly was MSXML 3 (I'm not sure of the differences between 3,4,6...went with what was recommended), corefonts(not sure if it was necessary) and d3dx9_36 in the system32 folder.
Other than that, I used ATI's driver and turned off visual effects in the appearance panel (causes flickering).
Doesn't appear to need things like dotnet, vcrun etc like I previously stated.
multiplayer?
by thomas fasching on Friday September 26th 2008, 2:26
since none of the other testers tested multiplayer i want to encourage you guys to give it a try. its really awesome.
register a multiplayer account ingame and you are set to play internet games. ive never even touched singleplayer in civ4 anymore after discovering the fine multiplayer-mode.
this whole entry is wrong
by thomas fasching on Thursday September 25th 2008, 20:03
it should be "Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization" since all those other games are also listed under "Sid Meier's" , I also applied with this name and really more info than this entry and it got rejected because of this wrong one. fix it pls, thx.
try with these dll's
by KhaaL on Tuesday September 23rd 2008, 17:27
Did you copy d3dx9_26.dll, d3dx9_31.dll, d3dx9_32.dll, d3dx9_33.dll, msxml3.dll, msxml3r.dll into your wine system32 folder? if you have no idea on how to do this, try installing that (directx9) and msxml3, vcrun2003, dotnet11, corefonts with winetricks.
