Don't use some patches for wine.. all work perfectly !
Howto for Warcraft 3 or War3RPG (but can be used for other games as well :-))
You need to open outbound and inboundTCP and UDP port 6112... Same as on wintendo
Just install warcraft 3 + FT + newest patch (can be patched through battle.net or through patch found on Blizzard FTP server)
You need to remove or rename cinematics, because they are not working...
Official GIT / distro packages of wine does not have AcceptEX support which is needed for network warcraft 3 playing...
So you have to download wine from GIT, and patch it with a patch from this bug (due to this you can host games of course with configured firewall, forwarded ports and/or public IP): 9787
How to patch wine: - How to use git is on wine wiki, so download the source.
git clone git://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git ~/wine-git
cd ~/wine-git
- Now patch your wine with
patch -p1 < path/to/the.patch
- How to compile wine from source is in wine source README (just run ./tools/wineinstall )
So now you have working FT and you can host / join battle.net and LAN games (notice that after hosting a game you must restart w3tft before hosting another game - otherwise no-one can connect)
You can rename the gg.smf file for disabling skin if you wish, but garena runs OK with skin now.
Run garena and log-in.
Wow! You can chat, open tunnels, join into rooms etc etc... :P
Left menu bar with games chooser is not fully visible and the bar is not resizable so you must click randomly to find your game... :-) War3 RPG is 3rd or 4th... :-))
Now open garena settings for warcraft 3 RPG and fill in:
Executable Settings: C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3.exe (path to your war3.exe in the wintendo way)
Game Bootstrap Parameters: -opengl(even if you have DirectDrawRenderer set to opengl in your registry)
Now if you hit Start Game your wc3:tft starts successfully. You are done! :P
GGTV works OK... Which is strange, because it is very same or similar hack IMHO as for LAN playing...
Please test garena on your linux boxes and report here AND on garena forum HERE
, maybe we could talk garena developers to make garena opensourced... It would solve all problems...
Confirming a Regression in wine 1.1.16. All commits from version 1.1.15 upto and excluding 1.1.16 worked absolutely fine.
Till the time the regression is resolved, I suggest you build wine from git and compile wine-1.1.15 to run Garena.

Hi there,
as im following the guide on how to run Garena under Wine i cant solve one problem. Everytime when i go on lan games or just try to join a game it freezes and im not able to do anything. My wine version 1.3.6. Has anybody experienced this? Thanx for the response.

I have played Warcraft 3 TFT over Garena for almost hour and a half and no problems whatsoever. But while i was playing i had the uTorrent turned on but as i checked i could see and get into a game without the uTorrent. I haven't tried playing without it but i will.
I had some small problems using the UI in Garena, like not being able to change on the side to view Clan, Room or Buddies list but that is ok.
The messenger works ok too but you have to press the Send button with cursor.
I am very pleased that i can finally play Warcraft over Garena, and without much trouble of setting it up too.
What happened?

Garena used to run quite ok in previous Wine versions from 1.1.17 below but now...
Not a glance of the software can be seen after installation.
Please dont abandon us Garena users.
I do not know how to code or I would be all over this trying to make it work with Wine.

9.04 and wine 1.1.20 with the patch

After patching wine 1.1.20 with the AcceptEX patch, geting the dependancies with the recommended deps script, wine succesfully compiled.
Garena could be launched even though a crash message apeared before the window poped up. Joining rooms, tunnelling and everything as with the wine repository version. Games are even visible on WC 3, but on joining a game the usual crash message apaears saying that there was a memory error.
Has the patch workede for anyone so far???

I'm testing Garena 3 with Fedora 10 32bits, Wine 1.1.15 from GIT. I install all the Recommended Packages (Building Wine on 32bit).
Garena are working normal... I can chat, open tunnels, join into rooms etc etc...
Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne works perfect, in solo games, but when Garena 3 try start the game... i don't now why, but aren't work! :-( In Executable Settings, path for the game is correct (C:\War3\war3.exe).

Hi, i just tried wine 1.1.10
Garena and Warcraft3 TFT works good but i still cannot see any games in my LAN section.
I have a router but port forwarding doesn't help.
I tried it on windows xp on same computer and same router and it works.
Anyone can help me?

I tried ur method using wine 1.1.9 but it didnt work.. i still have the (freeze every 3 sec) problem.. I'm compiling wine 1.1.10 at the moment and i will post the result as soon as i finish testing it.. with your method of course..

Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't..
It does sound really illogical, but it works for me 7 out of 10 times:
I now play 4-5 hours everyday,,, and haven't logged onto windows even once since Garena + Game started working on Wine..
What I do to start game is:
1. Start uTorrent.exe
2. Minimize
3. Start Garena
4. Join Room
5. Click on Start Game. Voila! It just starts... :)
I've tried starting without starting utorrent first, and have never succeeded to get the game running..(Results in the same error related to gdi32) But Have succeeded almost 70% of the times by following the above steps
also note the settings i used for starting game...
path: C:\Valve\Condition Zero\hl.exe [This depends on your installation..]
bootstrap parameters:
-nomaster -opengl -game cstrike.exe
However, for Warcraft 3, I think you need to get the AcceptEX patch and stuff...(I'm sorry, I've never played Warcraft)

Hurray!!!!!
It finally works under Wine 1.1.10, thanks to the newly implemented gdiplus and gdi32.
Now the game starts and it is possible to join also.... just as in windows....
Thanks to the Wine Developers....
Hope the Garena Devs don't make life tough again,, with major changes and all....

From the first two lines, I assume that the actual error lies in gdi32.dll file,
Also deserving mention is the fact that there are no overrides available in wineconfig for this dll file..
