Due to bug 18070(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18070) the installation does not work in the current version of wine(1.1.35), which is pretty sad, since the installed application works well.

There are only three ways make it work and neither are really recom­mended:

1. Compiling from git(not for the faint of heart http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guide/installing-wine-source) 

2. Using an older wine version as described in this test data : http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14318&iTestingId=39845 .

­3. Moving a windows installation is another way(after the steps below are made, that is) but that's not possible for everyone.­

This is a general instruction on what should be sufficient to install and run Photoshop CS 4 under the current wine version. If the application still does not install or work, a bug report should be made at http://bugs.winehq.org detailing any errors. T­his guide applies to installations of the trial version­ and the Master collection:

1. If not done already, download the winetricks script: wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks

2. Install needed redistributables: sh winetricks msxml6 gdiplus gecko vcrun2005

3. Install MS core fonts(sudo if applicable): sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts

4. Run the installation application(you might need to add a path): LANG=C wine Setup.exe

5. To work around the font layer bug(16499), and on your own risk, download atmlib.dll and copy to /drive_c/windows/system32 .

6. Run the application.

If you at this point have any problems, the correct (and good, non-evil) thing is to check if you bug is already reported among the linked bugs above. If this is you first bug report, look at some other bugs before you file your to get a feel for it. Also read the checklist shown when adding. And don't be afraid to ask if you are unsure.

Please don't use any other workarounds than those mentioned in this howto before submitting bugs as it defines what currently should suffice for the install. Using other workarounds could hide problems.

Please do NOT submit test results for "portable", cracked or in any other way illegal versions; they will be rejected outright. If you want to help out, please either buy the application or use the demo version.


 
ALT-Click keybinding and Compiz

Thanks to earther for the following email:

I was having problems with the Photoshop 7 ALT-Click keybinding in a new Debian install running Compiz.  I did the standard window manager tweak but it still didn't work properly.  Then I discovered an ALT-Click keybinding in the Compiz Window Management > Move Window > Initiate Window Move settings. I changed it to 'super' like in Gnome window management and voila, it seemed to get it working again in Photoshop. You might want to add that bit of info to the clone tool info on the Photoshop 7 page.

I had CS4 running almost flawlessly until the most recent Wine updates. I now can't use the type tool at all. I haven't installed any new fonts, and nothing else that uses fonts seems to have any problems at all, so I'm thinking that something in the most recent updates clashes with CS4. Anyone have any ideas?

Stopped working

Hi, i had CS4 working perfectly (from a windows installation) but a few days ago it stopped working and i don't know what to do anymore.

It simply show this line and do nothing:

err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000094 flags 0 addr 0xf775e215

The only change is an upgrade of hardware, from Pentium IV to Core i5

I'm using Gentoo 64 bits and wine 1.3.15

Photoshop CS4 works with PlayOnLinux

After installing PlayOnLinux and running this script:

I was able to complete the installer, once done Photoshop would start and bug out whenever accessing a menu function

After changing the running version of wine from 1.1.22 to 1.1.40 I'm able to airbrush & use the program so far

After downgrading to 1.1.16 and installing then upgrading to 1.1.37 Photoshop works so lovely and fast 100x better than windows. Just needs its installer fixing thats all. I would rate as plat if its installer worked.

To be clear, everybody is talking about the second stage of the installation (after you split the url and run 7za 'x' '*.7z'), right?

Also, I tried copying an existing installation over, and it shows the license agreement without the actual text of the license agreement. When I click accept, Photoshop dies quietly.

Only 1.1.16 works for me

Compiled wine 1.1.33, 1.1.34 and 1.1.16 on openSuse 11.2 32bit. Install only works under 1.1.16 for me though. Followed all the instructions here carefully.

CS4 Installer also works under openSuse 11.1 32bit with wine 1.1.16

I have Photoshop, Bridge and Dreamweaver working after installing through wine 1.1.16. Then the ".wine" folder can be copied over to a 64bit OS install and a newer wine version can be used to run the apps.

You can only run the installer once. A second run will error out with continuous loop? left it for about an hour once.

If someone wants more detailed how to under openSuse, ask.

photoshop

Photoshop works perfect for me along with dreamweaver.

I installed under 1.1.17 and Did not open them under it but instead upgraded to 1.1.22 and then did it (broke under 1.1.17 when opening for some reason).

I then installed other things like office 2007 and eve-online. In the 6-8 tests I did photoshop always broke AFTER installing eve-online. I am not sure why could be a bug or could be that some how directX apps conflict with photoshop. I decided randomly to upgrade to 1.1.28 and now it all works like a beast.

Wine setup: dreamweaver cs4, photoshop cs4, office 2007 and eve online.

I fixed fonts by installing corefonts and tahoma and times32 and now my photoshop looks exactly like windows fonts and all.

My version of Photoshop crashes when I open PNGs but not JPGs or PSDs. This is an improvement over the last time when only PSDs would open for me.

Perhaps it is a problem on my side but it could also be a problem with what Wine uses to read PNGs or something.

Some notes

Works really well once you get it running.

Could not install through wine on 1.1.17 or 1.1.23, did not try other versions. Installation was completed as described here: appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14318#Comment-42221

On load you will get an error from wine saying the application has to quit. Close the error and normal operation resumes fine with no further errors. May have to hit space bar or enter if error is not responding by clicking ok with pointer.

No Window Decoration(with or without compiz fusion). Alt+spacebar shortcut works. Alt+F9 works for minimizing.

No docking window dialog's (channels, layers, etc). If a window becomes un-docked, there is no docking it back anywhere. Reset workspace through Window > Workspace > Default.

The tooltip/window hints (yellow note looking thing with information in it) will become stuck on screen wherever they appear on all desktops (only one, so if another tooltip hint becomes displayed, the last one is removed). Disappears when application is closed.

Alt+click for setting healing brush, stamp tool, etc. will not work without changing compiz fusion shortcut for Window Management > Move Window.

UI Font size

I am not sure why, but on my screen I had to change the UI font size(preferences->interface->UI Font size) to "medium" in the application, or else it would look quite crappy. After that, it looked great!

It didn't matter how much i flickered the antialiasing settings in KDE, which lead me to believe that photoshop generates those graphics by itself. Does anyone knows if this is the case?

After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04, re-running "sh winetricks gdiplus" photoshop starts, but i got an error dialog. I dont' know how this dialog looks in english language so i just could try to translate it:

Title: The license for this product doesn't work
Content: An error has occured with this product. You have to restart your computer, before the application can start.

If this error occured again after a restart, please contact your it-administrator or the technical support of adobe. Use the error code, you can see in the bottom area of this screen.

error opening non-psds

It seems like I've done everything properly with installation (even the text tool works) but I can't seem to open any other types than .psd. I have to go into CS2 and make my pngs psds before going into CS4 and making what I want to make. Any workaround for this?

I just tried the PSCS4 Portable with the wine version 1.1.17.
Install new wine, after
sh winetricks msxml6 gdiplus gecko
and the PS started correctly. But the Font layer doesn't working yet.
Anybody has some idea?

run PS without Windows

Did anyone manage to install+run Photoshop CS4 without using Windows or a portable version? I'd like to know this because it's not clear if bug #16681 always occurs when you install PS via Wine. It would explain why a lot of people can run PS without this encountering this bug.

I installed wine 1.1.14, gdiplus, msxml etc. (but not ie6, cause it gives me a javascript error in install) ans the installer shows up correctly.
I can proceed every step without any problems, but after selecting which components should be installed, i get a screen with "installation will be prepared" and it doesnt happen anything.

Is there a way to fix that?

VersionCue.dll module not found errors

I got the following error when opening files:
Error: The specified module could not be found. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.0\VersionCue.DLL
My Photoshop cs4 installation directory is different than the default one, in my case
C:\Programme\Gemeinsame Dateien\...

Linking this directory to C:\Program Files\Common Files solved the problem for me

Menu glitches

Wine 1.1.9, Ubuntu 8.10, Compiz off, winetricked libraries like described before.

Everything starts fine, runs ok, everything works, but there's a serious menu issue. When you are mouseovering top menu entries and selecting their items/subitems - menu boxes aren't getting properly closed and stay on screen.

I installed master collection in vmware

copy %windir%/WinSxS to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/
copy %appdata%/Adobe to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/All Users/Application Data/
copy %appdata%/FLEXnet to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/All Users/Application Data/

copy c:/Program Files/Adobe to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/
copy c:/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/
copy c:/Program Files/Common Files/Macrovision Shared to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/

From windows registry backup HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FLEXnet Licensing Service and restore both to wine registry

now open up your Photoshop CS4 and have fun
