Description
This is the demo version of the game.

The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)

What works
Everything that I know of except some glitches in the new 3D-view. Installation is a bit tricky though, but possible (read my comment about installing, http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14405#Comment-41948)

What does not
There are some glitches in the 3D view, but other than that everything seems to work. Don't know if this is a wine-issue or that it's a problem with the demo.

What was not tested
Prolonged gaming and gaming with sound.

HOWTO

Workaround for blank screen on install

Trying to install the demo from the downloaded exe results in a blank screen. To fix this you'll need to use Sun Java rather than the built in one.

1. Download and install JRE from http://jdl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=10778

2. Extract the contents of FM2009 setup exe to a folder. Browse into the extracted folder to windows\resource\ and delete the jre folder.

3. Run the setup from windows\Setup FM2009 Demo.exe

Getting the game to run

1. Grab the winetricks script from here -> http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks

2. Open up a console and cd to where the winetricks script was downloaded to.

3. Type

sh winetricks win2k sh winetricks vcrun2005 sh winetricks winxp sh winetricks vcrun2005sp1 directx9

 4. Run

WINEDEBUG=+ALL wine fm.exe

Notes (from the winetricks page)

winetricks is a quick and dirty script to download and install various redistributable runtime libraries sometimes needed to run programs in Wine.

/!\Note: Although using winetricks may be very useful for getting some programs working in Wine, doing so may limit your ability to get support though WineHQ. In particular, reporting bugs may not be possible. See Reporting bugs after you have used Winetricks.

/!\Note: Some of the packages listed below may not work well with older versions of Wine. As always we recommend you use the latest version of Wine.

the installer crashes

for me I don't even get a blank window, the install just crashes after the initial progress bar:

How to install:
by Alf Henrik H. Sauge on Tuesday November 4th 2008, 11:53
Installing this demo is a bit tricky. The default installer fails due to some java-related problem. Here's how you get it to work:
First of all, install java (for instance this: jdl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=10778 ). Next you start the installation using the console (you'll need some output from it). The installation will fail with a blank window, but do not close it. Take a look at the console. Here you'll see among other things, this interesting bit (note: it will vary from installation to installation, so do not copy mine):

"C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\resource\jre\bin\javaw.exe" -Xms16777216 -Xmx50331648 -classpath "C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\InstallerData\IAClasses.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\resource\jdglue.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\InstallerData\Execute.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\InstallerData\Execute.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\InstallerData\Resource1.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\InstallerData\Resource1.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\InstallerData;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\InstallerData;" com.zerog.lax.LAX "C:/windows/temp/I1225819841/Windows/Setup FM2009 Demo.lax" "C:/windows/temp/lax5342.tmp"

Please note that I'm not including the "cmd:"-part in front of the first line. Anyway, it's trying to execute something with it's built-in java, but it fails. Here's where the java-installation comes in handy. Replace
C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\resource\jre\bin\javaw.exe
with
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_09\bin\javaw.exe

Navigate to the temp-folder, which in my case is ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/temp/I1225819841/ or C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\ in windows terms.

When in this folder, execute your equivalent of this command (it's wine put in front of the output above with C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\resource\jre\bin\javaw.exe replaced with C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_09\bin\javaw.exe)

wine "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_09\bin\javaw.exe" -Xms16777216 -Xmx50331648 -classpath "C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\InstallerData\IAClasses.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\resource\jdglue.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\InstallerData\Execute.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\InstallerData\Execute.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\InstallerData\Resource1.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\InstallerData\Resource1.zip;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\InstallerData;C:\windows\temp\I1225819841\Windows\InstallerData;" com.zerog.lax.LAX "C:/windows/temp/I1225819841/Windows/Setup FM2009 Demo.lax" "C:/windows/temp/lax5342.tmp"

Voila, working installer :) When done, kill the other installer that failed. Now you should be able to enjoy the FM2009 Demo.
