Rendering bugs with Radeon not with nVidia
by HoppelHase on Saturday June 9th 2012, 15:56
Those rendering bugs, I can see on a AMD Radeon System - but not on a nVidia System! On both 64 Bit systems, Ubuntu 12.04 and wine 1.5 is installed. The one with the nVidia card and driver plays Underworld perfectly (no missing polygons, colors, fire, etc.). The other with the Radeon graphics have this orange color problem. So this is not a wine problem but a graphics card/driver problem!
I've been trying to get this working on Mac OS X. With my Radeon 5870 the game itself runs in Wine 1.2.x and 1.3.x and the environment graphics appear OK but Lara is a solid colour with triangles coming off her that can cloud the screen preventing any serious play. The game also crashes if changing graphics settings in game. I did try the game on an Nvidia based Mac and the graphic problems went away with the 1.3.x versions also there is a mouse bug (unresponsive) with the latest 1.3.x builds. Any ideas of working around what I assume are ATI bugs would useful.
Gold Rating?
by Florian on Saturday December 11th 2010, 4:26
I don't think the Gold rating suits yet.
There is still the problem that fires are not displayed. You can see that in the very beginning of the game. And later when you are in the ship after the explosion.
and compiled WINE 1.3.5, the game works well on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit, I do get some 'pausing' at the beginning of scenes (I assume it's loading), but everything seems to work very well. If this patch was included this game would have a gold rating from me.
No fire, no sound, image is good, but sometimes extreemly slow even on GTX460 and 6 core CPU

Image
=====
The problems with orange screen disappeared, now image is very nice. Even if I turn on all effects and max texture detail and play in 1280 game runs very nicely. There was a scene (giant octopus) where image slowed down, but was still playable. However on boat and then on this big ship image is rendering in 2-4 fps - unplayable. If I play in 1024, and turn off everything I get something about 8-10 fps - still hard to play. G... I don't understand why in some scenes it works very smoothly, and on the sea it works so ugly slow. It's Phenom 6 core, and GF GTX460 - what kind of requirements does this game have!
Maybe it has something to do with CUDA or PhysX? Does wine support that somehow? Is there any play to have it supported?
Sound
=====
Sound is working only in menu before starting any game.
I have noticed it is cinematic sound, you can check that adjusting volume. There are no effects in game and no music.
I have genuine TRU CD (non-pirate) with patch 1.1.
