Description
Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D's survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected in four unique “movies,” guiding your survivors across the rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns and pitch-black forests in your quest to escape a devastated Ground Zero crawling with infected enemies. Each "movie" is comprised of five large maps, and can be played by one to four human players, with an emphasis on team-based strategy and objectives.

The game will start up and display the main menu fine, but upon loading a map, the frame-rate drops to an unplayable level, even with the lowest graphics settings.  You might get better fps with more powerful hardware.  Also, a patch exists that might improve your fps, but its use requires you to compile Wine from source.

Startup Settings

To change startup settings, right-click on the game in Steam, select "Properties, then "Set launch options...". You can add any of the following options, seperated by a space.

  • -novid - Prevent the startup video from running. Not necessary, but gets you to the menu faster.

If you have multiple screens, you'll probably find that the game tries to stretch over all screens, instead of just one. In this case, you'll need these options:

  • -height - Sets the window height. For example, "-height 900".
  • -width - Sets the window width. For example, "-width 1440".
  • -windowed - Not necessary, but starts the game in a window. Nice for if you want to move it to a different screen.

 
Note
L4D does not recognise -dxlevel 81 - it only uses dx9, using this option will make zero difference.

Weird Problems

Hey guys. I have a problem with left 4 dead (and left 4 dead 2). When I'm trying to launch left 4 dead from Steam there happens nothing in screen but I can hear the sounds of the intro video and menu. And when I try to launch left 4 dead from terminal there comes an error like this: "Failed to load the launcher DLL, module is not found" or something like that. I have installed directx 9 DLL's with winetricks and I have the newest wine version. My graphics card is radeon 4870 and I have catalyst 13.1 drivers. The weird thing is that it worked very well few weeks ago. I have garry's mod too but it has the same problem as left 4 dead. I have The Walking Dead game which works very well and Binding of Isaac which works too so I think that my problem is only with source engine games. I would be very happy if someone could help me. (Sorry if I have bad english.)

Got it running perfect finally.

Hey guys, I was able to get it working perfect with the latest wine version, but I had to do a few things. First off, you have to start it with the command line option w- , like, -w 1920. Then, completely disable vsync. With vsync turned on, the game was horribly choppy and unplayable. But with it turned off, the FPS instantly jumped to Windows levels. Also, turning the page pool memory down to low seems to stop the game from crashing when you switch campaigns.

Problem Solving

I've been having a terrible time trying to get Left 4 Dead to work properly on my Ubuntu 12.04 installation (amd64). I installed steam using winetricks 20120819, to be exact I used the following:

export WINEARCH=win32
export WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/wineprefixes/steam­
winetricks --no-isolate steam

I'm running wine-1.5.13 and I have a radeon 4850 with fglrx 2:8.960-0ubuntu1.1 and I've installed directx9 using winetricks as well.

I've been experiencing three main issue:

1) Certain configurations (fullscreen when compositing is enabled) will cause the game to freeze during game play without a verbose error message that can only be escaped from by manually killing L4D.

2) When running in fullscreen with compositing turned off, "hiccups" occur, short bursts of acute lag every second or so.

3) Graphical anomalies. To be specific shader problems i.e. the light from the helicopter the the beginning of "No Mercy" appears to be a solid white cone rather than a shaft of light. Also, light sources can be seen through walls.

So any help would be greatly appreciated, I've tried a number of permutation trying to get this to work (windowed/fullscreen, compositing). I figure that there must be something I'm doing wrong as other testers have reported great success with this title.

Issue launching L4D

Hi,

I'm stuck with some issue when trying to launch L4D. I installed Steam on my Archlinux x86_64 using PlayOnLinux (with wine 1.4.1 and a win32 prefix). Steam works fine and it installs L4D without any issue.
When I try to launch L4D, through the Steam interface or not, I get the error and then it crashes before the game even starts:

fixme:dbghelp:elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in module

I observed something though. Trying to launch the game without Steam running actually gets me further. The video is shown and the game crashs on the first loading screen. A message is displayed saying:

Steam is not running. You must start Steam in order to play this game.

And the logs do not show some elf_search_auxv missing anymore...

This second experiment suggests that the nvidia drivers are fine and that the first missing auxv is some Wine related issue. Has anyone else encountered that behaviour? Has anyone any idea on how to solve it?

Sound drops after title screen?

The game plays super smooth for me, accept for sound permanently dropping as soon as I load a level. The game starts, the title music plays, but starting any mode causes the sound to drop permanently. Running console commands to reload sound doesn't seem to work. I think I saw similar posts about source games having this issue.

Anybody run into this issue or have any ideas?

GLSL or Not GLSL

I have a problem with UseGLSL enabled and I have a problem with UseGLSL disabled.

Game runs fine

on wine 1.3.5 for me with catalyst 10.10.
Only thing that does not work is that all the models are invisible (Everything that can be moved, like doors, zombies, guns, you, etc)
Game world renders fine though and runs fine :)

Anybody got any ideas?

Left 4 Dead (Steam) Crashes when opened

I have ubuntu 10.04 with all the updates. I have the latest steam installed, and the latest WINE installed (1.2-rc4).

When I try to open Left 4 Dead from steam, it just crashes when its opened. If I have full screen enabled, it will kill my second monitor and the game will crash. If I have the monitor disabled then the game still crashes.
If it's set to windowed mode then it pops up on the window bar on the bottom and then crashes again.
Running from the .exe doesn't work either. Same results.

This is the error i get from running it from the terminal.

Server Unable to Authenticate Steam ID

For the last couple of days, I seem to get randomly disconnected with a "Server Unable to Authenticate..." message. Anywhere from 10 seconds to 20 minutes into a match.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Playing from my dual-boot Win7 on the same machine (completely different install of Steam on a different partition), I have no problem whatsoever.

I've tried deleting the ClientRegistry.blob, validating/defragging the cache files, and forcing steam to use the -tcp option, but nothing appears to make any difference.

System locks up

My setup: Ubuntu 9.10 x64; Athlon II x4; ATI Radehom HD 4770 with the latest fglrx drivers from the ATI website; 4 gigs of RAM

The game loads up just fine for me, and the menu screen is fast and looks good. When I go to load a game, though, the loading screen comes up, the loading bar goes to 100%, and then my entire system locks up. I can't move the mouse, use the keyboard, can't even switch to a virtual console. I always end up having to use the magic REISUB reboot to get out of the frozen system.

It worked fine when I was using an nvidia card on the same system. Has anyone else using ATI cards with fglrx had a similar problem?

Works but signifcantly slower than Win XP

Purchased Left4Dead a few days ago through Steam while logged into my windows XP partition. Played it quite a bit; worked as expected, of course.

Rebooted into linux (ubuntu 9.10), loaded steam, and set it to install the game (already recognized the purchase). Game loaded and remembered my settings from my WinXP experience. Everything in-game appears to be similar, though the experience is noticeably less smooth than in XP. I don't have framerate numbers off hand, but I would guess it's 20ish during most activity and 30+ when nothing's going on.

Running:
Ubuntu 9.10 64bit
Wine 1.1.35
nvidia 260gx with latest (190.53) or second-latest drivers


I haven't tried any online or multiplayer, though I wouldn't want to with the noticeable framerate difference.

Black Screen in-game

If you have the same that I had, black screen when entering the actual game - all the items and some HUD elements were visible - but the 3D world itself was black:

Change the registry value for OffscreenRenderingMode to "backbuffer".

[ This broke my pixelshader stuff in other programs, like VirtualDub (the GPU Shader filter no longer worked), so if you're experiencing oddities in other games after the switch, then just change OffscreenRenderingMode to "fbo" ]

My card is GTX260 using the latest beta driver 195.xx with Wine 1.1.34 with DirectX 9 installed (DX9 is not necessary at all anymore, just mentioning that I have it). Another oddity while playing is that if all settings are high, in this case the Shaderlevel VeryHigh, the flashlight spot is not visible - it gets rendered 'behind' the material effects. But the game does run with all settings maxed out. I tried it with 50 to 100 simultanious zombies (the screen actually is filled with gray limbs and screaming heads) with no ultramassive lags - framerate dropped from ~40 to ~25 for a bit.

I keep the ShaderLevel (or what ever it was called in the Advanced Settings) on Medium so that the flashlight is visible, also from the console:

mat_postprocess_enable 0

And the game runs fine.

sRGB Problem

Fire up the console, and input

sv_cheats 1

Then disable the tonemapping:

mat_dynamic_tonemapping 0

This should disable the postprocess fx that's giving headache to people. Works here, but not sure about other rigs.

I'm getting about 30-50fps (50 is max on my monitor with vsync).:)

Out of the box I have been unable to play any multiplayer games due to crashing at the MOTD screen.

However, using winetricks to install Internet Explorer 6 (./winetricks ie6) seems to have fixed this and I am now able to play on some servers. I have not had time to test them all at this time.

If you have been experiencing the same issues, you might try this and report your success/failure here.

I'm running L4D on Ubuntu 9.04 in a HP Laptop using Nvidia 9300M GS and 4GB RAM and a Core 2 Duo at 2GHz.

It runs exactly the same as when I run it in Windows Vista on this laptop. Only problem is that the game crashes at trying to play the new DLC and when setting the Video settings.
At the moment the game runs on full graphics (everything high) so it has slight delay just like when I run it in Vista with same settings.

Because I can't change the settings I can't run it in lower quality so yeah... gotta work on that. Besides all that, it works amazingly well

i find a way to increase the fps in left 4 dead without a patch
just download this autoexec.cfg www.4shared.com/file/137086302/71e54656/autoexec.html and place it in left4dead/cfg/ folder
also enter this in command line
-dxlevel 70 -console -novid -refresh 120 -heapsize 1572864 -high -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noipx -nojoy

WARNING
change the -heapsize depend your RAM
512MB -heapsize 262144
1GB -heapsize 524288
2GB -heapsize 1048576
3GB(max)-heapsize 1572864
if u have ram up from 3gb just enter the 3gb -heapsize value

i get 30-60 fps and sometimes 80-90 :D with the Disable SRGB-sampler-tate-triggered texture reloads, against 1.1.21 patch
wine version used 1.1.27 (yes the patch is working in this version)

Flickering in Game

Has anyone else ever experienced a terrible "flickering" effect in the game? Here's what happens:
* Loading L4D - menus work!
* Hosting a game, loading screen looks fine
* Just near the end of the loading screen, and in game, there is a terrible "flickering" effect. I'm not sure how else to describe it. The 3D realm is in tact as best as I can tell, but many flickers per second are occuring, so it's very difficult to see.

Here's my config:
* Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty
* ATI Radeon (01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4870])
* Latest fglrx driver's from ATI (Catalyst 9.9)
* Wine version 1.1.28 (also tried 1.1.27)

Here's how I load the game:

so i was messin around today and i downloaded and patched wine 1.1.29 with the small rgb hack, and then ran it with wineprefix (apart from my normal wine 1.1.29 that was installed) like so:

" itchy@itchy-linuxbox:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam$ wineprefix=/home/itchy/Desktop/wine-1.1.29 /home/itchy/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Steam/Steam.exe"

..and steam works perfectly every time, no strange colors or nothing (i doubt it was from the small rgb hack, which btw doesn't improve fps very much for me). But when i run it with my plain version of 1.1.29 thats installed its all messed up and colorful. just thought that was weird and wanted to report that.

Also, i have a couple questions, they say that other rgb trigger patch works well on 1.1.24 but my steam always crashes at the start and says it encountered a serious problem and had to close...any ideas? It gives me nice fps boost on 1.1.29 but of course there's the flashlight problem and everythings hella dark.

aaand, does anyone have any bad constant sound stuttering problems in source games like l4d and hl2: deathmatch? i can't figure out how to fix it.

I'm curious if anyone has found a solution to the "black screen" problem. I'm guessing this might only be an issue with ATI cards? I'm running the latest ATI drivers (8.640) with an ATI HD4650 and have tried multiple versions of wine from 1.0.1 through 1.1.26 (Debian packages for Lenny appear broken after this)

Comparing 1.1.26 and 1.1.27 w/ patch

Thought I would add my experiences.

I used the "Disable SRGB-sampler-tate-triggered texture reloads, against 1.1.21" (bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=21072) patch on 1.1.27 and it seems to have worked. The framerate improvements aren't as dramatic as many have experienced.

With all settings on low (except trilinear filtering enabled) at 960x540 I made a timedemo and ran it on 1.1.26 and 1.1.27 with the above patch. On 1.1.26 the timedemo reported 31.02 fps and on the patched 1.1.27 the timedemo reported 40.56 fps. This is a tangible increase, but I still feel like a lot of improvements could be made to increase the performance.

For reference, I have an Intel E6750 @ 2.66GHz, 2GB of DDR2-800, and a GeForce 8800GTS 320MB running on Ubuntu 9.04 (32-bit).

Another note: If you decide to build wine for yourself and you are a Ventrilo user note that 1.1.27 now includes GSM support and thus requires you have the GSM development libraries installed (it should warn you upon configuring). In Ubuntu this package is libgsm1-dev.

L4D with patch

For anyone that is having problems getting a decent fps on L4D you'll want to consider adding the bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12453 patch. It significantly bumps up the fps, if you don't know how to patch wine try this method. First go to link above and download the patch, then go download wine source (WineHQ > download > scroll down > Wine Source Download > first link you see) look for 1.1.24 they say the patch works best with 1.1.24 but if you can make it work with others great. Now once you have both source and patch untar wine source in your home folder (or w/e is best for you), cd in to source directory (should be cd ~/Desktop/wine-1.1.24, ~/wine-1.1.24, cd /home/yourname/wine-1.1.24 or where ever the hell you put it. Type patch -p1 < filename.diff, once patched type ./configure (if you run in to a Freetype error you have to "sudo apt-get build-deb wine". This part may take awhile just find something productive to do. once its done type "make depends && make" and you're done patching wine-1.1.24. Now in your terminal cd to your steam folder (cd /home/yourname/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/) once inside type ~/wine-1.1.24/wine steam.exe and poof you're running Steam on the patched up wine-1.1.24 It should look like this " you@ubuntu:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam$ ~/wine-1.1.24/wine steam.exe". This will be a second wine so it shouldn't affect your current version (at least it hasn't to me) if you run in to any problem or just want to delete the patched folder go to your home folder and delete it.

Black Screen in 1.1.26

I tried to run Left 4 Dead, but all I get is a white screen and a crash 2 seconds later. I tried turning off pixel shader and what i get instead when i launch the game is a black screen. I dont see anything, but i hear the menu audio coming from the game. Can anyone help? Am I dong something wrong?

Hi

L4D installs under Steam fine and loads OK. The menu is fine. But when I join a game (single player or multi player) all I see is the HUD (crosshair, other people's names, the health info at the bottom) and everything else is totally black.

I'm running Wine 1.1.25 with an nvidia gtx295.

can't start it from steam

When I try to start it from steam just nothing happend, but it succesfully start from install path /.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead/left4dead.exe and after video crashes with error that steam not running. Any ideas? Runs only if steam not running.

've tried running left 4 dead in Wine with several different videocard drivers but it crashes after the valve logo and intro video. Here is the terminal output:

This is mainly a bit of info I'd like to give to anyone trying to get this game running with ATI's Catalyst drivers. I have Arch Linux (x86_64) on a relatively new system; Phenom 9600 and onboard HD3300 (790GX). I currently get ~5-40fps (average of 15fps, depending on what's on screen; lowest is when I'm inside the sewers, highest is when I'm looking at a wall) using the command (and in-game gfx settings at the minimums): env WINEDEBUG=-all WINEPREFIX="/home/drew/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead.exe" -heapsize 157272864 -novid -high -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noipx -nojoy -windowed -width 1024 +mat_queue_mode 1 +mat_hdr_level 0 +cl_showfps 2

This is done on a base install of WINE 1.1.21 and then using winetricks to install "gecko" and "allfonts". The real trick here is that even the newest Catalyst drivers (9.5) give me problems when using (xorg-server > 1.5) OR (kernel26 > 2.6.28), so I had to downgrade them both. I compiled kernel 2.6.28.7, installed Catalyst 8.12, and downgraded xorg-server and settled the dependencies using the packages found here (I can't seem to find the thread where I found this archive originally): www.mediafire.com/file/1mhynyuwhnj/xorg-1.5-x86_64_packages.tar.gz

Since 1.1.21 I am now able to receive in-game voice. Also, the +showscores dialog no longer crashes the game (yay!) However, I cannot *send* voice, as pressing a key bound to +voicerecord does nothing. Is anyone else having this problem?

I have seen a lot of people reporting that L4D works great with Wine but i'd like to measure how great it does run.

To benchmark L4D you must first record a demo :
- Open the console and type 'record name_of_my_demo'
- Fool around in the game
- After a while (say 20 seconds) open the console again and type stop

Ok, you have your demo ready, you can start benchmarking

If you want to test your demo from the game them open the console again and type 'timedemo name_of_my_demo'

To get the results go to the Steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead/left4dead folder and open sourcebench.csv

For example I get :

performance issues

The game starts fine for me but when I get into an actual game I get very low FPS. On windows I can run the game on the highest settings possible but in linux even on some pretty low settings I get unplayable FPS. Anyone know how to fix this?

I'm getting much better performance and functionality with Wine 1.1.20. I used to get crashes if I didn't use "+mad_hdr_level 0" but this is no longer the case, so I can now enjoy the game the way it was meant to be played.

If you are having problems with L4D, I would strongly encourage you to update to 1.1.20.

Something which helped me a lot with Left4Dead Performance was to set the CPU manual to max speed. It seems while running L4D the ondemand governor only set the CPU Speed to around 1.8 GHz (Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.1GHz)) and the game performance was bad - but setting it to 3.1GHz (by using performance governor or using userspace and set to 3.1GHz) gave me good performance (it was really playable with default settings). Hopefully that helps anyone else.

PS: Specs of my computer are:

Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.1GHz)
Fedora 10 x86_64
nVidia 180.44
GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MiB
6 GiB DDR2 Memory (PC800)

L4D - Can't get past the "invisible main menu" issue

My info:

Ubuntu Interpid 8.10
Wine 1.1.19
Steam API v008
ATI HD3850 Video Card
ATI Catalyst Control Center for Linux version 2.2
4GB RAM
Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz

I as some others was able to successfully install Wine, Steam, and L4D. I can watch L4D's intro movie without issue, but I cannot see the main menu after the movie ends. I can hear sounds as I move the mouse and/or hit the space bar.

If we take it a step back, when I launch L4D from Steam I always get "Video Driver outdated" pop-up message with a link to install the update. Since I am running Steam and L4D on Wine, it is not possible to run this upgrade since it is in a "virtual" environment.

After checking out the other posts on this and some other forums I currently have LD4's Steam startup options as: -windowed -applaunch500 -dxlevel 80 -novid. I still cannot get the menu to appear.

I've been trying to get this working for a few weeks. Any help would be appreciated.

Left 4 Dead Performance

I have had no issues running L4D on my computer. I'm using about the same specs as my windows partition. Though I'm using a patched version of wine 1.1.16 due to me also playing fallout 3. I'm using arch with:
-Core2 Duo @ 2 GHz
-2 GB of RAM
-GeForce 8400M GS

I'm running the game at native resolution with all low settings except for paged memory pool and have enabled multicore rendering and getting very usable fps, even at the horde parts. I could probably even run it at higher settings if I wanted.

That's correct. DirectX 9.0 is the minimum L4D supports.

Ways to improve performance

I'm using the current version from git (25c2e283d87b2a8112f14fc7add0dbd37d2cee66)

The one command I've seen that gives a huge performance increase is "mat_queue_mode 2". This will allow the game to use as many cores as you have for materials.. rather then just using one. This more then doubled my FPS, going from 20 to 50 on a AMD 4600 (2.4ghz)

Hmmm although running Wine 1.1.17 has now allowed me watch the intro vid, and use the main menu no problem with beautiful sound, because of crappy Ati drivers ( referencing what others described as my problem )
it will not run in-game (missing some GLSL stuff).

So for me its not complete garbage but it definitely ain't no silver, gold or platinum.

Suggestion: drop ATI and get Nvidia if you want to play this on Ubuntu (seriously, unless you're using one of the latest cards).
Although it seems even with the latest graphics cards you will still have to keep the shaders too low or non-existent I believe .

A great game, make no mistake, without shaders its still loads of fun!

Just don't expect older but capable Ati cards to be able to play it (even if they can on Windows) thanks to the drivers at the moment (the binary drivers, don't use the open source drivers if you're using older cards like the R520 series or older for proper gaming).

Thats my experience so far.

Alright, perhaps it doesn't work as wonderfully as it does on Windows. But following my tips below, it should work fine on even mid- and lower-range systems. I use Gentoo AMD64, Wine 1.1.12, Intel Core2 Duo 2.2GHz and a Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M (which is like a slightly less powerful 8400GTM).

Execute left4dead with the following:

env WINEDEBUG=-all wine-pthread left4dead.exe

Run the game at a low resolution, windowed - say, 640x480 or 800x600. Ensure film grain is non-existant, make sure all other game settings are as low as possible, make Paged Pool Memory Available 'High' in-game, and disable multicore rendering - it's true, it really is rather buggy. With that, I can achieve FPS's of 20-30, even in fairly exhaustive zombie action!

Kubuntu 8.10, KDE 4.2.

On a dual core 3ghz, 5gb ram, 8800gts machine, with the following options:

-windowed -height 900 width 1440 +mat_hdr_level 0 -novid

Looks really bad, and although graphics aren't everything, they certainly do add to the mood of this game, so disabling them to this degree detracts greatly from the experience.

Even at this level of graphical quality (or lack thereof), there's still stuttering, especially when being rushed by a horde of zombies.

Will continue to reboot into Windows to play this.

Even on bare minimum settings and +mat_hdr_level 0 on parameters, 640x480 and minimum graphics settings in-game with multi-core turned off, the most I could get was 10fps in 1.1.14. This game doesn't deserve a silver rating - it's unplayable.

Mic Problem

(note: this is with a base wine + wine-doors install... I didn't do much fiddling except to get Steam to display web pages (gecko). I am probably a fine representative of the 'n00b' audience.)

Left 4 Dead isn't recognizing my mic. In-game sounds, and other player voices are fine. I can fiddle with Gnome alsa mixer and hear sound coming from my mic, but cannot get Left 4 Dead, or Steam to pick it up. Any ideas? I'm using a Realtek sound card.

Come on, how can someone seriously think rating this game gold at the moment ?
With default settings, the extremely low framerate due to HDR and stuff makes the game unplayable, without HDR (+mat_hdr_level 0) the game looks like crap and is still barely playable...
Have you even tried running this game on Windows to see what the expected results are ?
Gold ratings should be kept for games that deliver a decent playability, very close to the native one.

wine 1.1.11 x86_64, Phenom 9950, nvidia 9800GT with 177.82 nvidia drivers.
Added ``+mat_hdr_level 0'' to the launch options and the frame rate issues are gone for me. Of course, so are HDR lighting effects (you can keep some with ``+mat_hdr_level 1'' with minor performance penalties, I 've been told).

I just wanted to inform you that Left 4 Dead officially supports only DirectX 9. The updated Source engine dropped support for DirectX 8. That's why you can't change it with a console commands "-dxlevel xx".

reasonable performance

i have all graphics settings tuned right down (except for the res 1440x900)
i turned the film grain setting down to nothing, i'm not sure how to measure FPS but i estimate it to be ~40FPS when your by yourself or with your squad, but when zombies start attacking it drops to ~10-30FPS

I don't game that much in Linux anymore so I don't have a working Steam install atm but I just got the game in windows and it LAGGED BAD -
To remove the lag, I had to go to:

Options => Video => Advanced Settings
And *disable* Multi Core Rendering (it's called Multi something).

What this does is to no longer use your dualcore CPU for rendering and handling the game - it's quite buggy for many people on the Windows side and it might very well also fix the lag encountered on Linux since it makes heavy use of the system scheduler (and I seem to remember Wine not being terribly good at scheduling things).

Anyway. Give it a try and post back whether it works or not :)

Game works

I installed the game with wine 1.1.9 and in a clean environment.

The game works, however it's quite, "laggy". One way to reduce the lag is to run the game in a terminal and using the WINEDEBUG=-all, it will reduce some lag.

If anyones knows how to reduce even more?, because it's not really fun t play when it's lagging.

graphical error

game installs (under steam), menu, lobby, joining a game etc. all work fine: but once a game is joined or started the graphics make it unplayable.
Nothing is viewable, it's like the character has put a sheet over their head. The blanket colour changes as you look around, presumably according to lighting changes, but the only definable features are the cross hair, HUD, and pointers to the other characters.

Presumably something to do with the Film Grain effect? or Pixel Shaders?

Running wine 1.1.9 (encountered the same problem with 1.1.0) , with directx9 installed using winetricks, and the Nvidia Driver version 173.14.09
