Install msttcorefonts package using your packaging system. If it fails:
Install it using winetricks (this will affect your wine installation only, fonts won't be available for non-wine applications):
wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks corefonts
Insert WTLib disc and run Setup.exe. If it won't work, do this:
wine /cdrom/Setup.exe
Installer would create working shortcuts on your desktop (on some systems in home folder), and in Applications > Wine menu. Use these to run Watchtower Library. You may delete *Â.lnk files (if there are any), since these are of no use.
Fonts smoothing
Starting with version 1.1.12 wine supports fonts smoothing which makes fonts looking much better. By default, this option is disabled. In order to enable it read about the script. Here is a quick way to run it:
wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks fontsmooth-gray
WARNING: always be sure you trust scripts and automatic installers before you run them.
Problems with XFCE
XFCE ignores path parameter for desktop and menu launchers. As result, Watchtower Library does not start when you click these. The simple solution is to change "Command" parameter in launcher to
wine start wtlibrary.exe
Spanish Version
Spanish version of Watchtower Library has some issues, and won't work in default wine configuration. In order to make it work, launch winecfg, wine configuration tool, and change windows version to Windows NT.

Installazione Watchtower 2008 Italiano
by Alessandro on Monday August 17th 2009, 12:50
Ciao!
Buon studio!

Interestingly it installs light lightening compared to windows.

Missing dlls reported - solution
by Declan Moriarty on Wednesday July 22nd 2009, 3:36
dlls are reported missing in Slackware, and the library doesn't run without them on my box. I solved it with these 2 commands
cd .wine/drive_c/windows/system32
lndir ../../Program\ Files/Watchtower/MEPSCommon
lndir simply makes a pile of symlinks as needed and the library runs withour error.

Reporting Watchtower Library 2008 - Bahasa Indoensia
by roland ruben on Sunday May 24th 2009, 9:37
I just got the CD from my congregation this morning and try it on my Ubuntu 9.04 in 2 different machine, one Desktop computer and one notebook. The installation was running smoothly without problem but the icon of shortcut on desktop didnt showup but icon-like-a-text-file-look. So i have to manually added it to my desktop (right klik add this launcher to desktop). After the installation Wtlib didnt showup in wine but in browse the C:
I need to logout and relogin to make it appears in wine (Application - wine - Program - Watchtower Library 2008 - Watchtower Library 2008 - Bahasa Indonesia). Wtlib in Bahasa Indonesia so far works well on Ubuntu 9.04 as in Windows XP SP2 but i think i need more time for observation and trying compare it more deeply with Windows XP
Question about older computers
by Crafton on Saturday May 23rd 2009, 23:30
I have an old computer, 166mhz processor, running W98. No longer able to run the Library on that one due to the OS. Is there any way to install the 2008 Lib. on that computer, or to switch it to Linux and get the Library running on it that way? (It was originally used for only the Library anyway, and would like to "rescue" it. Can this be done with so slow a processor? I'm a total know-nothing where Linux is concerned.)
Watchtower 2008 on Sabayon: no maps
by Massimo on Sunday April 19th 2009, 6:22
Dear all,
installed Watchtower 2008 on Sabayon (gentoo-like) distribution. Everything looks normal (font rendering, sound) except tips and maps which are not working at all.
This is the procedure for installation using wine-1.1.19:
1) installed cabextract utility on the system (was not present before)
2) installed corefonts by using winetricks
3) installed Watch Tower Library 2008 by laungching the command:
wine /media/WTLIB08I/Setup.exe
When the program stars, it simply did not allow to view maps and tips.
All script is wrote with portuguese dialog boxes, I have no time to translate to english now, any help will be welcome.
This script activate smooth fonts, download mstcorefonts(if want to) and re-package after install to turn on not necessary cdrom for next instalattion.

Sub-menu or Contextual Menu (Spanish)
by Nelson Rodriguez on Friday February 20th 2009, 10:10
Hi,
When right clicking in a word, the sub-menu will not work. None of the options. This worked fine in 2007.
There was an issue in 2007 that the sounds and maps submenu didn't work, but there was a work around: double click the word and the submenu for those items will appear and work. However, in 2008, the submenu does appear, but it doesn't work.
And when going to "Obras de Consulta" (not sure in english...is the submenu that gives you the maps, insight, pronunciation, etc) any option there will always take you to the insight article of it.
Once there, if the name has the icon next to it for pronunciation and/or maps, clicking on either one will take you to the first item always.
Any help with this will be appreciated.
I installed the Spanish version, in Ubuntu 8.04 64 and 32 bits, with wine 1.0 and wine 1.1.15 (same problem in all combinations). No error displayed (while doing the action) in a console.
