4) If you've had a version of MapSource running previously and had to install gdiplus, you now need to disable it.
Open winecfg, go to the libraries tab, select gdiplus and remove.
5) Run the MapSource 6.15.11 installer.
6) Edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and add a # to comment out the following line:
so that it appears like this:
7) Load the garmin_gps module:
8) Create a symlink so that Mapsource can find your gps:
ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 ./.wine/dosdevices/com1
9) Run MapSource and enjoy.
Native GDIPLUS that was generally needed to get MapSource working with versions of Wine prior to 1.1.40 no longer works. Switch to using the builtin GDIPLUS as of 1.1.40. It appears to work well now. Cheers to the Wine team.

I am trying to install the update "North America NT 2010"
The previous version was working OK, except the communication with my 376c was iffy at best.
Now, when I enter this command:
>>> $ wine c:\\Garmin.City.Navigator.North.America.NT.2010.30.update\windows\\setup.exe
I get this error:
>>> err:msi:copy_package_to_temp failed to copy package L"IMG\\USB_32.msi" to L"C:\\windows\\profiles\\jf\\Temp\\msi70e6.tmp" (3)
The name of the file "msi70e6.tmp changes at each run ...
If I got this to work, I could get rid of Windoze :-)

I had an issue updating MapSource to the latest version using the updater from Garmin or the built in update menu entry.
On the command line I got the following error:
fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT"
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCR80.dll (which is needed by L"Z:\\home\\andrew\\.wine\\drive_c\\windows\\temp\\Garmin Software Updates\\MapSource.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\home\\andrew\\.wine\\drive_c\\windows\\temp\\Garmin Software Updates\\MapSource.exe" failed, status c0000135
These errors were alleviated by installing vcrun2005 using winetricks. Note that I actually installed vcrun2005, vcrun2003, and vcrun2008, but I believe 2005 is the one that is needed, so if that does not work install them all.

Hello, I'm a new user of ubuntu, my version is 9.10. I followed this guide and Mapsource runs well, but when I tried to do the symbolic link I saw ttyUSB0 doesn't exist. Can anyone help me? Where do I have to do the symboli link now? Regards
cannot connect to eTrex Vista through USB
by Chris on Monday April 27th 2009, 23:01
USB connection has worked fine for me with earlier version of both wine (probably before 1.15) and Mapsource (6.13.*), but it stop working suddenly after a wine update a while ago. If I forced to search for device, the whole program freeze and I cannot kill the resulted defunct mapsource process. Any thoughs?
