How To Play Quake Live:
idea from: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1080957

1. Use winetricks:

 $sh winetricks msxml3 dotnet20 gdiplus riched20 riched30 vcrun2005sp1 flash firefox3 directx9

2. Copy the following from a windows XP installation:

* secur32.dll
* dnsapi.dll
* rpcrt4.dll

to your .wine/drive_c/windows/system32 directory. You also have to go into winecfg and set library overrides for secur32, dnsapi, and rpcrt4 (`native then builtin' will do)

3. Then installthe QuakeLiveNP.msi with the following command:

wine msiexec.exe /i QuakeLiveNP.msi

4. Also downloadand install PunkBuster from:

http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

Then with firefox login in quakelive.com and play!

Note: The first time I launched the training game in windowedmode (default) but i couldn't move the mouse. I tried to fullscreen but the game crashed. The second try i opened the web with firefox in fullscreen (F11 key) and the game launched right. I play in fullscreen mode (Press ALT+ENTER) in 1280x1024 with high details, same performance as in windows XP.

Sorry for my poor english :)

Connection Interrupted
by Andrée Hansson on Tuesday May 19th 2009, 10:23
I'm experiencing problems with Quake Live after having played for a while. The game quits and a message is thrown on the website explaining that the connection was lost to their network:

"We're sorry, but it appears you are having problems connecting to the QUAKE LIVE network. If you are behind a firewall you must make sure that it permits the following connection:

Protocol: TCP
Host: xmpp.quakelive.com
Port: 5222"

The game runs fine on Windows so it shouldn't be any routing problems that I know of.

I'm running wine-1.1.21 and while playing it's relatively smooth except for a few hickups here and there, which I think is compiz-related.

Install error
by Nathan on Wednesday April 29th 2009, 19:44
The installer keeps claiming that it's interrupted when I try to launch it via the above instructions. I'm using Wine 1.1.20 on Linux Mint 6.

Online games
by tadadata on Sunday April 26th 2009, 11:31
With this guide, I managed to run quakelive and I can even play training matches. However, some online stuff doesn't seem to work:

- No friends are displayed
- When I join a game it says "awaiting challenge" and then nothing happens

Anyone an idea what the problem could be?

Keyboard-stuck
by unknown on Thursday April 9th 2009, 8:55
Are you also having problems with your keyboard?

When I move around using WASD pressing more than 2-3 keys will make the keyboard go stuck ..
