First of all, thank you for spending some time to help Wine to get better,
I would like to make some suggestions for you to make your tests results more relevant to other users of Wine.
Detail your PC specs in the Extra Coments section (e.g. your video card, processor, and system memory).
It's also important to specify your video card driver version into Extra Comments section.
Specify if you installed the game into a fresh Wineprefix (or not), and what programs you actually installed.
Detail what version of the Windows emulation you use in your Wineprefix (e.g. Windows XP, 7, etc).
Add a comment about what is not working - be specific not vague!!
Specify if you made any changes to your game e.g. like a games
"Mod", an .exe patch or details of any modification you made to the
stock configuration files from the game.
These are recommendations to make tests result more uniform and
targeted to include common information that will be useful to other
users of Wine.
How-To Install the game.
You need:
A recent version of wine, it's recomended the last release
A video card with 3D Acceleration suport on your unix.
The 3D driver installed for that card.
It's not necessary a clean prefix, but it's recomended.
Steam installed and running, to do that, follow the steps on Steam page.
Installing:
Just install your game like other normal game installed on Steam, it's not necessary any patch or program. For more detail how to boost your games see the section Tips below.
Tips:
For make Unreal Tournament 3 run better and without any problem, install Visual C Runtime libraries, to do that, download here and here and install-it.
After installing, create a file called vcrun.reg and put the following content:
To also make sure that everything will work fine, install the tahoma.ttf, arial.ttf, verdana.ttf and lucida.ttf font's on your prefix. You can do-it manually or using winetricks with the follow command:
Change the 768 to the real ammount of RAM in MB that your VideoCard has.
Unreal Tournament 3 Hangs on start and crash (only Steam version).
This bug is related to Steam in-game overlay, to solve, add a entry on winecfg libaries section called gameoverlayrenderer and set to disabled.
Old Problems.
Note: These problems don't
affect the newest versions of wine, it's only here for precaution, if
you have any of these bug's maybe you should upgrade your wine version.
Mouse stuck into the edges of screen, cant turn 360ยบ
This happens because the Mouse Input of wine is not so good until now, you can solve adding this patch to registry:
This is caused by implementation of mouse input in old versions of wine, to solve-it, you need to run the game in Windowed mode or into a Virtual Desktop.
UT3 Logo hangs indefinitely using 100% of cpu.
You can solve this problem by using the options -nomoviestartup and -onethread in the game executable. Newest version of wine don't have this bug.

UT3 hangs at startup
by iive on Saturday September 15th 2012, 8:45
On startup UT3 shows the logo window then hangs indefinitely burning 100% cpu.
I managed to workaround this by using the command line option -onethread .
I also recommend using the -nomoviestartup , for some reason bink movies cause hang, too.

Hi,
I downloaded UT3 via steam, but it kept locking up when i would input the cd key or get to the game. after many hours of working i found that pressing alt+enter switched the game from fullscreen to window mode, and the game came back to life. Hope this helps you.
ATI/AMD graphics card?
by James Scholes on Wednesday January 13th 2010, 16:17
I'm having little luck getting this to run with my Radeon HD 4870 on Ubuntu Karmic (64-bit), Intel Q9550, 4GB RAM. The new Catalyst 9.12 drivers have fixed a few niggles in other Steam games, but I'm getting stuck at the 'enter CD key' page.
It's displaying in the wrong resolution (I assume the 640x480 it was using for the videos), with no response from the mouse or keyboard.
I've tried most variants of the fixes mentioned in the threads below with no luck.
Has anyone managed to get it working on an ATI/AMD card?
Steam Version ~ Works at gold level
by maaddog on Friday January 1st 2010, 4:07
Just a quick note, under ubuntu 9.10 64bit with wine 1.1.35 UT3 works at gold level.
Performance is great actually (easily 60+FPS for me at 1920x1280), no major issues it does require mousewarp forced as all other UT3 engine based games.
I had to put configure a DLL overide for Openal32.dll forcing native, apart from that all good.
Shame this doesn't work... they're having a free Steam weekend for it right now.
I found that I couldn't get it to install under Steam until I used Winetricks to install IE6 in the same prefix. Without it, Steam will hang on the license agreement screen before even downloading it.
Can anyone else confirm that? I don't want to waste the devs time opening a bug if it's just me.
