HOWTO
  • Run "winetricks -q flash dotnet20 msxml3 msxml4"
  • Run installer, choose not to check for critical updates during installation.
Installation will fail.  This application does not currently work under Wine.

You also need Visual C++ 2005 and 2008. QuickBooks 2008 WILL run in Wine-1.3 if you install everything listed above and below.

I was able to complete the install after I updated to wine 1.1.31 (no more msi_cabextract failure) and get it to run. Unfortunately it crashes on exit and and crashes when trying to load a company file, however if no company exists and you create one (like on a first run) everything seems to function.

as a side note - I was trying to get it to run more stable and I noticed that wine complained much less after I used winetricks to get msxml, comctl32, and comctl32.ocx
