What works
The installer worked if I chose the minimal option. It was necessary to run winecfg and make windows 95 the default version of windows.
What does not
I could not figure out how to install the full version because it required a second cd. The tips from the FAQ about using wine eject and wine start 'd:\setup' did not help. I still could not unmount the cd and insert the next one. wine eject would give the error "Cannot open device for drive d:', whether I started setup.exe by typing 'wine start "d:\setup.exe"' or "wine /media/cd/setup.exe'. I then tried copying the contents of the first cd to my harddrive but it then expected the next cd to be under the same path as the setup.exe file. I tried copying the second cd into the same directory as the first, but that didn't work either.
After successfully installing using the minimal install option, I ran links as follows:
wine ~/.wine/drive_c/linksls/Links\ LS.EXE
It asked if I wanted to run in MSDOS mode or Win95 mode. I chose the latter.
I then got a dialog saying: "Links LS was suspended by another application. Click "Resume" to return to the game". The same dialog repeats if you press resume.
What was not tested
I didn't try the medium install option.
