HOWTO: installation

You will need the "cabextract" program installed to install Snapshot Viewer.

From the command line:

  • Run the install program as follows to extract the files to a new directory called 'snap':
    • wine snpvw.exe /C /T:snap
  • Change directory to the newly created directory
    • cd snap/snap
  • Extract files from the extracted files
    • cabextract snap901.cab
  • Run the install proper 
    • wine acmsetup.exe /T *.stf
  • Follow the install until its completion. It tells you that the program did not install, but this seems to be incorrect.
  • Leave the directory and delete the install files.
    • cd ../..; rm -R snap
  • Run
    • wine "c:\\program files\\snapshot viewer\\snapview.exe"
    • The program should run. Try to view your .snp files.
If your files do not open correctly, please consider reporting a bug so it can be fixed.

When I tried to install the viewer with both the most recent version from Microsoft and an older version I got an error message:
"Setup initialization file is corrupted". No indication of which file so I am giving up on this.

I have managed to get Snapshot viewer to run. It can open .snp files but in the examples I've tried it with only the header logo appeared. I don't know if this is simply down to missing fonts or something deeper.
