  • If you make a new starter on your desktop, then type "xgamma -gamma 1" (w/o quotes) as the command to run. Quickest way to reset gamma.
  • You should leave the game set to fullscreen and set the "Screen Size" option to the resolution you chose in winecfg. The game will change your screen's brightness, which is annoying, but attempting to run it windowed inside the virtual desktop causes odd problems. Although this is dependent on your video card and I myself did not get the problem.

  • "Enable Advanced Rendering" may not work for some. It's worked fine in 1.1.21, but had some odd problems with it in 1.1.23. Sometimes the screen, starting at the top left corner, would become tinted with a colour, usually red, purple, or white. This hasn't happened to in the slightly older wine, only 1.1.23.

  • Lighting and Shadows is slightly buggy at higher settings. Specifically, there is a lot of flicker at times with certain shadows.

  • SAVE OFTEN. There still seems to be another memory leak, even with the patched source. Try to save once or twice a day, game time. Depending on what you're doing, the game may crash often or may only crash rarely, but it will eventually crash. Large events, frequent travel, and build mode all seem to cause this to occur faster. *Please note this may be fixed in newer wine versions

  • Downloading content doesn't work, but the launcher itself does, and can be accessed easily from within Sims 3 (the "Open Launcher" menu item). If you have access to a windows PC with the game installed, you can download content, such as the Riverview town, there and then transfer the .Sims3Pack files to your Linux install. Put the .Sims3Pack files in My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads\ ('My Documents' being the path you set My Documents to above) and the launcher should be able to install them. *Please note this may be fixed in newer wine versions

  • If the Sims3Launcher crashes of an error such as "Unhandled Exception: System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory" it's probably a truetype font problem. See appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3754 for details on how to fix.

  • Seting OffscreenRenderingMode to fbo in regedit, the texture problems seem to have disappeared altogether

To use the launcher you need to install dotnet20 via winetricks!

Receiving the following?
fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly
L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" (8.0.50727.762)
err:module:attach_process_dlls "MSVCR80.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for
L"\\Program Files\\The Sims 3\\Game\\Bin\\TS3.exe" failed, status c0000142

Fix by installing vcrun2005sp1 with "winetricks vcrun2005sp1"

If you have nvidia card and are having brightness issues, after entering the game, use the command 'nvidia-settings -l' (in terminal) or just launch the nvidia panel to solve the brightness problem. If the problem appears again, just repeat the command.
For ATI on Ubuntu 10.04 x64 the following works fine; Go to System->Control Center->ATI Catalyst Control Center->Color and click the Default button. The colors now change back to normal.

Bug 18991 (crash loading a town) fix:
env WINEPREFIX="~/.wine" TZ="America/Bahia" wine "TS3.exe"
Note: It might be best to change America/Bahia to your own TimeZone

Note that Greg Noe was able to download content (at least the Rivertown) by launching the Launcher from within the game, killing the TS3.exe process (launcher won't let you download while the game is running), and then just downloading like usual.

Sims 3 Steam version won't launch. with Ubuntu 12.10
by lolan on Friday May 3rd 2013, 19:14
Hi all,

I have PlayonLinux and Wine 4.1 installed, both of which I believe are up to date. I have the Steam version of The Sims 3. Whenever I try to launch the game, a box pops up for maybe one second that says "set up microscoft part one" or some such thing. Then the screen just flickers and nothing happens.

Any advice? I can't download the game from another site right now. I want to use Steam anyway. Please help me get this great game running! Thank you!

Raw input broke the pause key
by David on Saturday March 23rd 2013, 6:46
Since Wine 1.5.13, which introduced "raw input", the pause key (key to the left of the number "1", above the TAB key) doesn't work.
Using the "0" or "P" key to pause works, but it is very inconvenient.

I use a Spanish keyboard. Changing the keyboard configuration in KDE to "Generic 105-key (intl)" doesn't help.

I've run of ideas of what to try. Any help?

Sims 3 Pets - the infamous "no fluff" bug
by Gareth Hart on Tuesday January 29th 2013, 18:14
Does anyone who is currently playing The Sims 3 with the Pets expansion pack installed have any fluff displayed correctly on their animals in game? Particularly for anyone whom plays with an NVidia graphics card installed. I'm seeing graphical corruption where the fluff should be.

It's difficult to fathom whether this could be a bug within Wine, the NVidia drivers or something else.

FYI, I'm using a NVidia GeForce GT 555M.

Sims 3 Crash when clicking "play" button
by Zootal on Thursday January 24th 2013, 15:29
1) Signup does not work, but you can sign up at website
2) Login works
3) Clicking the big blue play button causes crash:

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x027f2198 at address 0xf75fd995 (thread 00b7), starting debugger...

It does this with both wine 1.4.1 and 1.5.22.

IstallWizzard looks different comparing to the installation video
by Sandra on Sunday January 13th 2013, 8:18
I'm not totally sure what is wrong with my installation procedure. When I open Sims3Setup.exe a window opens showing an orange install button for origin. I have no other options then click it. Afterwards it installs origin and the installation continues quite well. But I don't have options to select my country or the folder for the installed files. In addition, the windows at the end (where you can select whether you want a launcher or not and whether you want to see the ReadMe) are not there. I'm forced to do the installation via Origin which never appears in the installation video mentioned above.

When I try to patch my version, wine says, that I should try another patch because i'm registered at a wrong location. But I had no choice to select my location eighter.

Last but not least, Sims 3 is not running and wine says I should reinstall the base game.

My system:
Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit
Nvidia Geforce Gt 520M
Intel® Core™ i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz × 4

Expansions and launcher
by Gustavo on Wednesday October 10th 2012, 17:58
So, I installed The Sims 3 base game + latest patch. Is it safe to just install the expansions normally? Do I need to follow any specific order?

By the way, I cannot get the desktop launcher to work. If I type optirun env WINEPREFIX="/home/gus/.wine" TZ="America/Halifax" wine ".wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin/TS3W.exe" onto the Terminal, it will run the game, but clicking the icon on the desktop will not! Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance.

TS3 always freezing on start-up?
by Grace on Tuesday September 25th 2012, 3:14
When the game automaticaly resizes my screen, everything is OK. But then, when the loading menu is supposed to appear, the screen dims itself to show the program is not responding. Right-clicking on the Wine Program Loader Symbol on my sidebar and selecting quit also tells me "The Sims 3 is not responding" and I quit it. It's never done this before and I'm not sure what to do.
I'm running Ubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04, and it has been fine before, its just today. I have cleared out the mods, done everything. The game isn't working! Help!

Wine not opening TS3 properly?
by Grace on Monday September 24th 2012, 23:42
When I initiate the process, which runs as normal, my screen usually 'splits' like in the picture below. After this, within about 15 seconds, the loading screen would appear and the game would work as normal, however now it just stay at the split screen and doesn't load. I have a few mods and am thinking about trying to run the game without them but ultimately its necessary to have the mods. Does anyone have this problem, or have you had and fixed it?
Cheers

Custom Content
by Josh Raymond on Monday September 17th 2012, 2:10
Well it appears that in the newest version of the Sims store, you're unable to download custom content as .package or .sims3package files, the only option for these is to download them throught he launcher, requiering java script. I'm not sure if it's just me, just my wine setup, or what, but java script doesnt seem to work very well for me, at least in this regard. On windows, you click "Download" on the website, it opens the launcher and downloads/installs the content. in WINE, it does nothing. Absolutly nothing.

Anyone got any ideas in how to fix this?

(Using Firefox in WINE, as IE insta crashes for w.e reason)

The game falls when loading town
by Aleksi on Thursday August 9th 2012, 9:12
I've installed the expansion packs from World Adventures to Pets, using version 1.36 and no-cd mod (no crack!).

The game itself starts and works fine, but when I try to load any town, game freezes. Immediately the mouse pointer changes from "loading" to "pointer" and finally "Ubuntu pointer". Loading bar doesn't move.

Is it possible to fix it, and could this be consequence of expansion packs?

Created thumbnails are gray, old ones are in color
by John on Wednesday August 1st 2012, 17:31
Definitely a problem on the creation side. Thumbnails for default families/houses and downloaded ones are in perfect color. Nothing to complain about there. The problem occurs when creating new objects. The color is a grayscale and very light - almost ghosted. It seems what you would see if you broke an image up by color components in GIMP. Not a true grayscale image, but you can clearly tell the pixel structure is the same. It is drawing the right pictures, but it's very hard to see since its only gray shades and very light.

I tried to delete the thumbnails in both the saved games folder and the sims 3 main folder. Nothing happens. I don't know what is causing this.

Everything else works well aside from a few glitches rendering roads, but then I am playing on minimal settings. The game plays perfectly and the actual 3D imagery is rendered properly considering my settings. Sound is good too, so it's probably not a DirectX problem.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with a few KDE updates installed. My wine version is 1.2.3, and I'm using the built-in PlayOnLinux wrapper for the Sims 3. The version of the game itself is 1.2.7 with no-CD patch.

Here are some images showing what is happening:
i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd515/Parkitect/other/sims.jpg
i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd515/Parkitect/other/houses.jpg

The above images have created items on the right, downloaded ones in the middle, and default ones on the right. As you can see, it only affects the ones created with my game ran with wine. It draws everything else as it should be, so the error is in the creation of the thumbnail images, not displaying correctly-created ones.

Text and other textures fix
by Mikel Pr on Tuesday July 17th 2012, 3:16
If you're getting blurry/very bold/black text and some textures just don't appear, it's because your graphics driver lacks S3TC texture compression. Only proprietary drivers implement it due to patent problems.

FOSS drivers such as nouveau, radeon and intel use Mesa libraries, which can't have an S3TC implementation due to patent issues. However, they can plug into S3TC decoding libraries, such as libtxc-dxtn. If you wish to keep using the FOSS drivers (mandatory for Intel graphics cards, in some cases radeon being better than Catalyst, or just trying out nouveau) you have to install libtxc-dxtn.

On Ubuntu: search for libtxc-dxtn in Software Center (or sudo apt-get install libtxc-dxtn in a Terminal)
On Fedora: add RPMFusion's repo and install libtxc_dxtn.

If you're on a 64-bit machine install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the library!

ANd then SIMS3 will start - very 'jerky' but loads to the first game screen (after the IM3 loading page) with illegible graphics. Click on the 'tick' and the game just closes the window.

I used this :

sh winetricks directx9 comctl32 comctl32.ocx fontfix mfc40 mfc42 msls31 ole2 pdh urlmon wininet native_mdac

to install the winetricks stuff

Newbie to this - Am I supposed to set something up in wine ?

Other stuff - EADM loads then offers to load something called origin - which also fails. (don't have any idea - the SIMS is for my daughter not me...)

I was so pleased - the 'it just works' had me thinking I could wean my daughter of microsoft at last... but no SIMS & her birthday only a couple of days away ...

Can't create desktop link
by Dan on Wednesday June 20th 2012, 8:31
Installation was smooth as butter. I get the gamma issue, but the terminal fix makes it easy to correct.

MY issue (and I'm not entirely sure that this appropriate for the forum) is that I cannot create a link on my desktop from ts3.exe. Any time I try to run the game from the link I get an error
"Unable to start game
Service initialization failed (0x0175dcbb)"

How-ever, everything is fine if I run it from the .wine folder. No problem to continue doing so, but it would be nice to have a working shortcut. Anybody else run into this?

everything works except..
by Laureen on Wednesday June 13th 2012, 8:48
Hello,
I've been trying to install the sims on Linux for days now.
After getting mad at Windows, I decided to try Linux, and therefore I'm fairly new at it.
But after my brother gave me this site I did manage to install the sims, thanks to the help from the comments as well.

My only concern now, is that I cannot install fontfix - and my problem ingame is the font - it's impossible to read due to it being way too bold - and as I've read somewhere, the way to fix that is with fontfix - but I can't seem to install it via winetricks..

Anybody had that issue and know how to fix it?

Thanks :)

Game takes forever to load
by Olivia on Wednesday February 8th 2012, 9:31
After i finally installed The Sims 3 and added the patch and the No CD fix (as shown in the installation video), I've tried to run the game, but after I clicked on Sunset Valley it didn't continued loading for like 20 minutes. I don't know much about Ubuntu just the general stuff, but I would really like to switch from Windows. The problem is this game that I'm trying to make work for 3 days now.

As I've seen there's a lot of people having so many problems and I couldn't find a place where all this stuff is explained as "for dummies", step-by-step.

Please let me know, if anyone has any idea on how to make it work.

Just thought I'd give a quick note to anybody curious: The Steam version works perfectly and does /not/ require a crack, unlike the boxed version. Just install Steam, install dotnet20, install The Sims 3 and enjoy! Couldn't be better.

Video Performance
by andrew on Monday December 26th 2011, 21:15
I just thought I post something here - I added the Generations expansion pack (got to love Christmas presents), and totally blew up my Sims 3 install. I've managed to get it working again, though I'm currently suffering from some serious video performance issues.

The problem I was having was the sound would suddenly cut out at total random (sometime's at the intro screen to running the game for an hour) and then the game would suddenly crash hard a few minutes later. After nearly a full day of fiddling, I figured out the quick fix - I had to add SndQueueMin = 1 to my HKEY_USERS -> S-1-5-21-0-0-0-1000 -> Software -> Wine -> DirectSound key.

I hope this tip may help some people out.

Installed via Origin in Mint 11 x64, won't run
by James Lake on Sunday November 20th 2011, 21:05
As it says. I can't figure the thing out for the life of me, and we don't have a copy of the discs to try to install it the "normal" way.

Running it in terminal, both in a 32bit and 64bit prefix, gives the following debug dump (the only thing that changes is the memory address given at the end):
pastebin.com/AYctRRx6

winetricks has been used to install dotnet20, fontfix, and vcrun2005sp1. Native DirectX components are installed.

If it helps anyone any in debugging this, the machine's status in the detail under Hardinfo is:
pastebin.com/Yv0Rvwa5

Part of that data has been deliberately scrubbed to protect the client's privacy; I apologize if it causes any problems.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Working on Fedora 16-64
by neil on Sunday November 6th 2011, 5:24
I installed via PlayOnLinux, and it worked famously; although it didn't grab all of the dependencies.

At first, I had no sound, and no working graphics.

I Installed perl-Digest-SHA due to “which: no shasum...” errors in debugger.

Graphics:
Need to have 32-bit video drivers, as well as 64-bit. Without, I was getting OpenGL/DX errors.

rpmfusion.org/Howto/nVidia#head-072bb482d4af214c8f55122a0d5a754897eb9370
fedorasolved.org/video-solutions/nvidia-yum-kmod

I had used akmod-nvidia to install the video drivers. Akmod had installed xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs, v 280 on my laptop, so I installed the i686 version as well.

I installed Wine-alsa, as reportedly the pulseaduio drivers don’t work
Still no sound, so installed
wine-alsa.i686
alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686

Working with Launcher in 1.26
by StefanT on Saturday October 22nd 2011, 7:40
This is how I got the launcher working with Sims 1.26:

Take a fresh wine prefix

Install some stuff using winetricks:
winetricks vcrun2005 flash ie8 fontfix

Install the Sims 3 (DVD edition in my case)
Install the latest patch
Fix the CD check

Done

Some remarks:

I use a virtual desktop and have the game running in fullscreen.

Windows version is set to XP (the default).

Maybe Nvidia only: I have to set the OpenGL quality in nvidia-settings to high quality. Otherwise some objects, especially some custom hairs, are broken.

no "readable" text and black colors
by ricorico94 on Thursday October 6th 2011, 13:12
Hi,
I installed a new Ubuntu 11.04 with latest Wine 1.3.29 (I hope).
I installed The Sims3 and also dotnet20 using winetricks.
I can thus launch the Launcher (almopst working: I only see a white page on the right when clicking the "welcome" tab: it once displayed something about flash, but I don't remember.)

If I click to start the game, I can view the starting logo and the video. Then I have the welcom screen and it srtas not working anymore: I can not read any text: characters look like if there were very, very bold, and I can only see some blacks drops or points..
If ever I click on the big button, the screen shows some black landscape and fonts are still not readable.(you can see a snapshot here: dl.free.fr/v0okKs4Xh picture is not that good, but at least you can see that desktop fonts are OK while in the game window.. no way..)

I tried to use Wine Config to setup display at my laptop size (1400x1050), no change. I tried to run winetricks fontfix, no change.
If I start the sims using directly the icon in game folder, same behavior. I also tried to run the command in terminal (while game is playing?) xgamma, but no change. And I can not find in launcher or game where to play with screen resolution or whatever to see if it could help (I can reach what I believe is a display menu in the game, but I can not read and nothing is checked ).

I'm only a beginner in Linux, so perhaps I miss something, but even after reading many posts on this forum, I don't know what to do more.

Any idea ? It's an old laptop, but I used to run games on that one (under winxp), even some using heavy graphics.

Just in case this is useful
by ejwaxx on Friday September 30th 2011, 13:22
I recently reinstalled TS3 after rebuilding my desktop system. The game installed and ran like a champ...the first time launching it. On second launch, the game would launch fine, but no world or save files were readable. Agh! I later came to find that, once the Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder in My Documents was written, the game could not read it again: I could start an entire new game by launching without the TS3 folder but could not read from the folder after it existed.

I eventually hypothesized that the cause might be that my /home volume uses btrfs, which was the only disk change I'd made since playing TS3 successfully on my old system. To test, I created a new directory on my (ext4) root, and lo, the game functioned normally when writing there!

I was curious, so tested using the 3.1-rc8 kernel (using 3.0.4 normally) and no longer had the problem, even after moving the game files back to the btrfs mount. So it looks like I was running into a btrfs bug fixed between 3.0.4 and 3.1-rc8. Just in case anyone else runs into that issue, because I was unable to find any information when I first ran into it.

No need for hacked exe
by Guilherme Furst on Friday August 19th 2011, 10:08
You don't to search a hacked no cd exe and dlls
I have The Sims 3 installed with all EP and up to latest patch, if you know a little bit about modding the sims it will be easy.

www.the-isz.com/nraas/index.php?/topic/110-the-nocd/
There you can find an simple script mod which will disable the cd checking as long as you start from TS3W.exe
There is also a useful guide to install mods, in that forum and here as well: modthesims.info

It is great because you can enjoy your original game, update and install new patches without all the hassle.

Tryed the fixes suggested but the game still crashes when loading a town
by Larissa on Friday July 22nd 2011, 18:55
Guys it's been about a week that I'm trying to make The Sims 3 work here and unsuccessfull.

I've already installed some patches, reinstalled wine, updated to the newer Mono version, used this fix: env WINEPREFIX="/home/larissa/.wine-sims" TZ="America/Bahia" wine "/home/larissa/.wine/drive_c/Arquivos de programas/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin/TS3.exe"

and the game always crashes when loading the town...

Game runs ok, but weird graphic glitch
by Guilherme Furst on Thursday July 14th 2011, 10:16
Hi people, my game amazingly ok, i'm found some weird screen stuff at very specific locations.
For sure in the Aquarius club in Bridgetown, if i zoom i see triangles coming out from the center of the screen, it also appears in camera mode, its not game breaking but is annoying.

I have screen shots attached in this thread: modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=448528

Since i don't really know if its a bug with wine or the game itself.
Has anyone came across something like this?
Thanks!

missing walls
by fr on Saturday May 28th 2011, 9:04
Hi!

I managed to get the game installed, running it in version 1.19.44 with no-cd-crack.
Unfortunately, all Walls of the buildings are missing. Additionally, wherever there is a window or a door, the wall is actually displayed and going through that, so when my sim enters a building, he walks through a wall.
Any Idea how to fix this?

Regards,

Florian

Garbled text on load, crashes after clicking on Sun Valley

Blackout with no access
by Jacob Brown on Thursday March 24th 2011, 23:19
Hi all, I have tried to get the Sims 3 working on my Current Ubuntu laptop (Quad core with 18G ram and New NVidia graphics) using the defaults and I get a black screen, no error and no getting out of it without forcing a reboot. I then disabled shadowing and get an error that term failed to print. I'm using the noCD patch because the DVD failed to install correctly and after installing from HD left the EXE asking for a disc.
I also tested on PlayOnLinux.
Any thoughts?

Launcher works with dotnet20, even kind of works with mono28
by Dan Kegel on Friday January 21st 2011, 21:19
Sims3Launcher seems stable with dotnet20, but I was curious about
whether mono was good enough.
With
winetricks mono28 gdiplus
I was able to start Sims3Launcher.exe sometimes,
and clicking the Play button even got it to at
least do a disc check. Since I expected it to not
work at all, I was impressed...

Finally got it working but crashes during gameplay
by Merel Fabré on Friday January 14th 2011, 14:12
Phew finally got it working after an evening of searching on the net and trial and error.

Did everything according to this site. Only had trouble with the netframe 2.0. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and worked fine. Deleted dotnet20 in the cache file before doing that.

Note also tried installing in virtualbox, dont try it, apparantly you can only set the graphic card to 128 which is why the game wont run.

Now on to my problem: I can load a town, create a sim, move in a household en start decorating a home but then it crashes. This is the output I got in my terminal:

The game installed fine for me and will start up with no sound... I fixed the no sound with padsp.
But when I get past the opening little video There are just random looking lines and colors.

I took a video using gtk-recordmydesktop and converted it to avi(for some reason there is a diagonal line going through my video).
www.mediafire.com/?jlyo95zlr3bww5a

But in the video I show the command I am using to start the game...
Then when the opening video starts to play I click through it and then you can see what I see.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

Sims3Launcher Version 1.18.90 freezes on
by Adam Malcontenti-Wilson on Friday December 17th 2010, 7:41
Hi.
I've managed to upgrade all the way to 1.18.90, but the Sims3Launcher works as well as can be expected until you click the "Play" button.
Clicking "Play" freezes the launcher and produces

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x104a3bc0 "?" wait timed out in thread 0009, blocked by 002f, retrying (60 sec

errors

Is this something that if I wait 1/2 an hour it will work or is this a bug?

It seems that running TS3.exe directly works however.

Indeterminate Polygons After Intro Video
by Jonathan Pittard on Monday December 6th 2010, 20:12
I'm trying to install Sims 3 Vanilla on a laptop running Ubuntu Maverick. I've installed the latest dev version of wine, the Sims application, and the latest cumulative patch. The intro video plays successfully, then I get a bunch of random screen-filling polys at what is supposed to be the loading screen. The application is obviously running, as the sound fade-in/fade-out behavior works and the mouse cursor changes. I have tried glsl-disable, although that is all I have installed with winetricks. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Interface not displaying
by RS on Tuesday November 30th 2010, 2:55
On my computer the Sims has installed ok (after installing dotnet20 with winetricks and patching/no-cd-ing). However, when running TS3.exe the video intro will display, but when it gets to the loading screen it's just black (there's still music and - apparently - an interface being created as I can click where the buttons should be and progress to the game). Then when I enter the world/sunset valley, the world will be displayed but all interface elements will be invisible. Again, they're clickable, just not drawn.

Any suggestions? File a bug?

I'm using an ATI HD5730 under Ubuntu 10.10, fglrx drivers. Wine v. 1.3.8.

No game disk found...
by Rob Knop on Saturday November 6th 2010, 13:17
I've installed The Sims 3; the installation from the purchased DVD appeared to go smoothly. I've run winetrick command described on winehq.

When I run the game, it runs through the introduction animation. However, when it gets to the game itself, it pops up a window saying "No game disk found", refusing to continue until it finds a game disk.

I searched the web a bit, and found a site "gamecopyworld" whose advertisements made me shudder as I realized what "target audience" I was evidently placing myself into. From there, I found a "no DVD patch", which I ran. Same exact result.

Is there anything I can do to play The Sims 3 under Wine? Is there anything I can do about this disk not found? Is the problem really copy protection, or is the problem that it's not finding the data I installed on my HD?

I've tried running both "wine TS3.exe" and "wine Sims3Launcher.exe", with my CWD the "Game/Bin" directory that the installation The latter does exactly what the former does once I click the big "play" button. It may be related that I can't see any text when I click the "welcome" icon in the latter.

Can't click sims
by Maarten Bos on Wednesday September 8th 2010, 14:18
Hello,

Now the other issue is gone, but now I am unable to click on other persons.
clicking on yourself works
clicking on buildings work
random clicks work

but persons are just like in a "when they are going home, you can't do anything about it" kind of way, greyed out..

In this case, I don't think any dll overwrite is the problem, for there are far too less and only a few that are needed are there.
(only 2 things)

I have no idea how this problem has occured...

A bug...
by Daniele Antelmi on Thursday January 21st 2010, 8:17
Hello. I'm new and I'm Italian.
I installed the game The Sims 3 and it runs, but when I run the mode "Create a sim" the game close and return at the desktop.
I believe it is a bug.
Help me, please!

Sluggish game play
by Ian Haycox on Wednesday January 20th 2010, 3:21
Hi,

Thanks to the notes here I have managed to install and play the Sims 3, however the game is very sluggish and unresponsive. rsh'ing into the box shows CPU usage of TS3.exe at 95%+ even when the game is 'idle'

Hopefully it's just a setting I've missed - Any ideas appreciated.

What I've tried:

Linux liz 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 16:20:31 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux - 2.7Mhz AMD CPU

Wine 1.1.36

Sims patched with nocd and version 1.8.25

Nvidia 7050 onboard with nvidia 185.18.36 drivers. glxgears runs and glxinfo reports direct rendering = yes.

I've checked wine config set as Hardware rendering and also tried adding the following to regedit,

[Software\\Wine\\Direct3D] 1263909540
"DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl"
"OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo"
"PixelShaderMode"="enabled"
"UseGLSL"="enabled"
"VertexShaderMode"="hardware"
"VideoMemorySize"=dword:00000200

and wintricks dotnet20 vcrun2005

Any ideas ?

Thanks, Ian

No text with Intel video
by Miro on Monday December 28th 2009, 11:35
Hi Guys,

my sister really likes the game so I have been trying to make it work for the past few days. Here are my results:

1. On my wife's System 76 Panp4n laptop (nVidia 9300M, Core 2 Duo) with Ubuntu 9.10 the game, installs, patches and runs (with bypass for the copy protection).

2. On my Lenovo and my sister's HP laptops, both with Intel 4500M video, the game installs and runs, but no text is shown on any of the menus/hint boxes/anywhere. (To run the game I need to use export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib32/dri, to load the 32-bit libraries)

3. I used Virtual Box to install guest windows XP and enable 3D effects. The game installs and runs, however, text is still not shown. (there is no need to load 32-bit libraries here)

(I always remove the compiz effects by logging in into an XFCE session)

At this point I am assuming this is an issue with the Intel Linux driver, since the game runs fine on my sister's laptop with windows 7.

Has anyone seen this issue and does anyone have an idea for a workaround.

Thanks

ATI bugs
by Ric on Tuesday December 1st 2009, 7:47
Now that I have this game running on an ATI box it's time for a few notes.

1. The curser always has an opaque grey box around it. I guess there's trouble with alpha layers in PNG or something. As far as I can tell this is fglrx specific.

2. Texture loading appears to be slower than with nVidia. Could be my hardware or a subtle difference in Sims 3 settings, but the textures seem to load much faster on my nVidia 8100 than my Radeon HD 4200.

3. Like with nVidia, exiting the game sometimes leaves the screen too bright. Unfortunately fglrx doesn't seem to provide a method for reloading the config ike nvidia-settings does, so this requires a restart of X.

4. Occasional textures corrupt in game. Very temporary and could be because I haven't patched with the latest patches.

5. Overall stability actually seems to be better. My fiancèe played for a few hours and things didn't slow down or crash out. Although this problem was related to memory leaks on my other system and I haven't had chance to check memory usage here yet.
