What works

  • Installation
  • Patching client to version 10232009
  • Joining a server
  • Joining a team (see comments)
  • Playing
  • Voice chat

What does not

  • Permanent crashing with r6025 error (see comments)

What was not tested
Nothing

Additional Comments

When game runs at high resolutions (above 1024x768), joining a team and/or spawning causes runtime error 6025 (see bug 7698). A workaround is to set hl2.exe under “Windows 98” mode through winecfg.

So why is this a Platinum? It crashes as soon as I spawn every time no matter what the graphics settings. Anyone had better luck?

Works flawlessly

The game installed, and was running in a few minutes using Wine 1.1.31. I recommend setting -dxlevel 80 in your launch options though, as it allows for better performance.

I've found it is possible to join games by lowering graphics settings. I cant say what exactly needs to be lowered for it to work, because it seems slightly random. However with low settings I can join games fine. It is not playable, however: I just get stuck rooted to the spot unable to do anything except look around. There is also an issue with other players not being animated smoothly and seemingly not moving around except in 'stages', jumping from place to place with a delay of a second or so and without any model animation in the meantime.

Crashes When Spawning
by David Drahos on Monday July 6th 2009, 16:12
The game crashes when I spawn and I get a runtime error. Otherwise while spectating the game runs great.
