Set up steps
by Jerry Chong on Friday July 24th 2009, 8:52
Running perfectly on Jaunty, with wine 1.1.26 and pulseaudio. I'll list the steps for setting up here:

1. There's an .exe and a .kgt file in the folder, most likely named ヴァンガードプリンセス.exe and ヴァンガードプリンセス.kgt. I renamed both of them to VanguardPrincess(.exe/.kgt).

2. Go to System > Language Support > Install/Remove Languages and tick "Input methods" for Japanese, then Apply. There is no need to install the others.

3. Type 'locale -a' in a terminal to verify that ja_JP.UTF8 is in the list now.

4. Not sure if Pulseaudio+Wine works out-of-the-box now, but if not check www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/PerfectSetup first.

5. From a terminal, cd to the install directory before launching:
~$ cd VanguardPrincess
~/VanguardPrincess$ LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine VanguardPrincess.exe

It doesn't work for me

Well it does work but not like Matthew. I have to change the system's language to Japanese. I installed it that way and i can play the game only with the Japanese language a system's language. The game works perfectly on Ubuntu 8.10 with Wine 1.1.25

It worked for me
by Matthew Almarji on Sunday July 5th 2009, 15:42
The game worked perfectly for me but it seems that it might not work for everyone, here's what I did.

First cd to the directory named ヴァンガードプリンセス then start the game using the command
"LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine ヴァンガードプリンセス.exe" without quotes.

I don't know why it works for me but here is what my wine config says:
windows version is XP, ALSA driver under audio, under graphics the first three check boxes are selected but not "Emulate a virtual desktop" and "vertex shader support" is set to hardware with the "Allow pixel shader" check box checked.

I tested it with Xubuntu 9.04 x86_64.
