Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)

What works

Neverwinter Nights 2 OC, MotB, SoZ, MoW - tested beginnings. More extensive testing will follow.

What does not

GoG installer fails at the last stage with a four button window. Aborting it still installs the game properly.

ATI fglrx - bug 11583 happens if shadows are set to anything higher than Low. (which means character drop shadows only.)

What was not tested

Multiplayer. Further stages in game.

Whether it works without dll overrides.

Additional Comments

Will be extended later with multiplayer tests.

HOWTO
  •  Use of dll overrides "devenum.dll" and "dxdiagn.dll" may be necessary for the game to run.
  •  Requires using winetricks to install directx9 and vcrun2005.
  •  The following registry key changes are recommended (Use the command "wine regedit" and then add them as strings to the appropriate directory):

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D]
OffscreenRenderingMode = fbo
UseGLSL = enabled
VideoMemorySize = 256

You may also put in whatever amount of memory your video card uses instead of 256.

  • To get the autoupdater to run, right click anywhere on the autoupdate window (except the status text part), and then click "dedicated internet connection". It should now work.
  • If you are unable to change resolution while using fullscreen mode, emulating a virtual desktop may be useful for getting the game to allow other resolutions.

Installer doesn't even start
by Thomas Benn on Wednesday April 10th 2013, 4:17
Hello,

using the NWN2 Complete version bought from GoG (for a penny and a dime, really), I tried to install but failed.
Using a fresh wine prefix I used winetricks to install vcrun2005 and d3dx9 and set the registry to the stuff in the how-to here.
Yet, still, just like before doing all those things, the installer doesn't even start and fails with:
"Runtime Error (at 144:148)
Access Violation at adress 7C434000 in module 'gdiplus.dll'. Read of adress 1009F814."

This is what is happening in the console:

I downloaded gdiplus.dll and set the override to navite then builtin but still the same.
Anyone know how to fix this?

game crashes on start, installation doesnt work
by blq on Tuesday June 15th 2010, 5:22
This propably happens because of the copy protection of the dvd. I m also unable to copy the .cab files from the dvd to harddisk. I'm going to use some nocdfix.

nwn2 + bloom
by Daniel on Friday May 14th 2010, 5:17
Hello, I have what I consider to be a serious problem. I'm running nwn2 plus all expansions, under ubuntu 10.04 64 bit with nvidia drivers version 195.36.04, from the nvidia website.

Whenever I have bloom enabled and there is a weather effect like rain, the screen is flooded with white. I can't see anything whatsoever except the interface. This obviously happens in outdoor areas, and it is easily reproducible. Just type in the console DebugMode 1, and then rain 1 to reproduce. Does anyone else out there get this? There's no evidence that anyone else does, according to google.

Even without bloom enabled, rain makes the screen a fair bit brighter. I really have no clue why.

Toolset?
by John Koenig on Sunday March 14th 2010, 14:56
Hey all,

Is it possible to use the NWN2 Toolset under wine?

I have installed the app using the above procedure and the game itself runs pretty well.

The toolset however has bigger problems. When I try to create an area, for example, the area rendering window dominates the entire drawing area and I am unable to see buttons and tabs behind the directx drawing surface (they still react to events however). I see the below error messages:

fixme:ntdll:NtQuerySystemInformation info_class SYSTEM_PROCESSOR_PERFORMANCE_INFORMATION
err:d3d:IWineD3DSwapChainImpl_Present Cannot change the destination window of the owner of the primary context

Any thoughts?

nwn2 won't save games and options
by Vasily on Saturday November 28th 2009, 1:59
Saving game doesn't work: in game it says "game saved successfully", but if I go to save menu once again there're no saved games.

Same happens with game options: I can change them, but next time I open options menu they're reset to nwn2.ini values, and nwn2.ini stays unchanged.

When I deleted nwn2.ini the game crashed:
pastebin.com/f2686d18d - nwn2_errorlog.txt
pastebin.com/f716f72c6 - nwn2.ini

System info: Debian Lenny, wine-1.1.33 from www.lamaresh.net

Can play only in windowed mode
by Paolo on Monday September 21st 2009, 7:05
Hi there, first of all, thank you for this entry.

I can play nwn2 only in windowed mode, if I set the game to run in full screen, my gnome panels are still visible and I have to click game buttons when the cursor is not exactly over buttons, but when it's lightly below buttons.

No problems in window mode, the game runs really good, but I'd like to play in full screen.

Issue with toolset.
by crasher on Wednesday September 2nd 2009, 8:23
Im trying to launch the tooset NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe with wine.

I have all libs installed, and previously succeeded to launch it with some minor issues.

I didn't tried it for a while and since had some updates from wine development packages.

.NET is installed

If I try to launch from command line, I get this exception :

Unhandled Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.SEHException: External component has thrown an exception.

at NWN2ToolsetLauncher2.LauncherStub.Main()
at main(String[] args)
wine: Unimplemented function ntdll.dll.NtQuerySystemEnvironmentValue called at address 0x7bc3c480 (thread 0029),

It sounds like a regression, as previously I was able to launch the toolset but couldn't manage to open a module.

Think it was on 1.1.26 ou 27 (few weeks ago).

Now, the toolset cannot open at all.

Does someone has clues about this ?

Thanks in advance !

Your video card has less than 128 mb of video memory
by Giovanni on Wednesday August 26th 2009, 10:57
No need to change registry entry for this annoying problem. Just use winetricks directx9 (no d3dx9). Hope help.
