ATI fglrx Buffer Overrun
by ichk on Thursday March 7th 2013, 8:38
I got the Visual C++ Buffer Overrun - Message which seems to affect many newer Grafik Drivers I got it solved by doing the following:

Backup the executable. Open the executable in a hex editor. Find the string "GL_EXTENSIONS: %s" and change it to "GL_EXTENSIONS: %p".

I found this fix at appdb.winehq.org/commentview.php?iAppId=1346&iVersionId=5601&iThreadId=65885

Call of Duty - Installed on Karmic but won't run
by marto on Wednesday November 4th 2009, 12:27
Hi guys

I am fairly new to linux and have been experimenting with Ubuntu for a couple of releases now (Hoary was the first) but I have recently installed Karmic and love it, but would like to completely dispense with Windoze, I have tried to get a few games to work and don't seem to have any luck, now I have read that Call of Duty works perfectly for a lot of people and have tried this, after a bit of fiddling to get the installer to move on to the next cd after the first is ejected, everything seems to be fine - until I try to run the game, then I get a fatal error stating that my graphics card (Ati Radeon X1950) won't run COD, this is not the case as it runs fine on XP, I have tried to find a driver for it, but can't seem to install it and everytime I run COD I get the following:

Your video card appears to be missing one or more features required to run Call of Duty.

You should install the latest drivers for your video card, being sure to uninstall the old drivers first. If you already have the latest drivers, you should completely uninstall the drivers and then reinstall them. This fixes most problems. If the game still doesn't work, it may be that your video card does not have the minimum features required. Please check the readme for more information, including a list of supported video cards.

Glxgears works fine by the way and I have tried to install using the Loki script but it doesn't work - something about libgtk1.2, which I try to install and get told it is either missing or obsolete
Please help me guys

Many Thanks

Marto

Install doesn't work
by Warren Dumortier on Monday March 19th 2007, 1:45
Hello,
I can't install CoD1!
The Loki installer doesn't detect the disc, i's version 1.0 of CoD.
I tried with Wine but I can't swap, I used force umount and wine eject but every time when I insert disc 2 the name is disc1 and the installer doesn't detect it!
Can someone help me?
Thanks

Won't change CD durring install.
by Joe on Monday November 20th 2006, 12:25
I can't get it to change CD durring install. I tried the link someone posted but it's no good. I also tried to mount ISO images and was able to remount CD2 but when it said reinsert CD1 I was outta luck. How can I get Call of Duty to install under wine with the windows version? Do I have to install it to the Windows partition 1st then copy it over? Will that cause it to be missing system files? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanx all!!

Sound Issue
by Alexander Stanley on Sunday October 30th 2005, 15:44
1. Install using this ( liflg.httpdnet.com/files/wine/call.of.duty_1.5-english.run )
You may install as root (it will give ALL users access to the same COD) or as user, giving it to only one user. Saves on multiple installs.
2. Chmod directory to 0777 (you need write permission for configs).
3. Run winecfg. Ensure "driver emulation" under sound is not checked. Runs on ALSA or OSS (depending on your setup, I prefer ALSA but has been reported to work on OSS).
4. It will run as "codmp" or "codsp."

OPTIONAL - Run under WINE rather than Cedega
(if you don't have Cedega, don't worry). Substitute paths and editor as required/desired
a) nano -w /usr/local/bin/codmp
Line 5 says "WINE_NAMES". The list will be checked sequentially. Remove WINE from the end, add it to the front. Alternatively, if you use CVSWINE, add cvswine.
b) nano -w /usr/local/bin/codsp
Same as above

Installed CoD using the loki CoD installer and using wine 20041019. It works great, can\'t tell the difference between windows and linux when running the game..

C.O.D.
by Ricardo Wagemaker on Tuesday July 27th 2004, 8:56
Call of Duty runs faster if not better than on it\'s native Windows platform. I recommend any one getting it installed on Linux and give it a try.
