Black screen on launch / no focus by Sam Skipsey on Sunday February 3rd 2013, 8:21 Hi all, Using wine release 1.5.22, I can't get Borderlands to be playable. If I have the default "Let the Window Manager control the windows" option ticked in winecfg, then Borderlands will launch from Steam, show the splash, change my screen resolution to 800x600, take my mouse focus... and lose screen focus completely. I can't switch focus to Borderlands, so I can't see if it is actually displaying anything (Steam is on top of Borderlands in the display). To exit and regain control I have to Ctrl-Alt-F1 to a terminal and then kill the Borderlands process. If I switch off "Let the Window Manager control the windows", then Borderlands successfully grabs display focus as well... and proceeds to display a black screen through all 3 intro videos and into the menus etc themselves. Again, the only way to escape this is to switch to a terminal login and kill Borderlands. Attempting to alter this by manually setting OffscreenRenderMode to "backbuffer" results in Borderlands not starting at all (with a complaint that the video device doesn't support the options it needs). Overlay keyboard working (shortcut + screenshots) by Mikael Åkersund on Tuesday April 19th 2011, 13:16 The steam overlay CAN be accessed while playing Borderlands, it's just that the default "Shift-Tab" that doesn't work right. I used Win+Tab at first (I think Win is bound to Meta in X.org) but then the steam overlay thought I had the windows button pressed all the time so I couldn't use for example "Tab" in-game because I was then thrown into the steam overlay window. "F4" became a really fast way of exiting the game. I have now bound the steam overlay shortcuts to "Apps" and "*" which I normally don't use while playing. Btw the steam screenshot utility does pop up a crash dialog after use but it disappears harmlessly after closing it. I get better perfomance when I use "-ONETHREAD" launch option. Wine 1.3.11 Ubuntu 10.10 Installed winetricks for other games/steam. d3dx9, cc580, Directx9, vcrun2005, corefonts, allfonts, tahoma, gecko, gecko-dbg Installs cleanly with Steam. Starting game got a little weird, but just letting it do it's thing was sufficient... Mouse is not being 'centered' properly, it hits the side of the screen and prevents you from turning your character further. Opening credits play sound, actual game has no sound. Steam overlay seems to have problems, not fatal to gameplay, but you cannot access it. This is mostly an issue as any message that comes up that won't go away on it's own is stuck there. At this point, I believe this game will work fine with a few tweaks. Need to test Multi-player, Starting a new game, and actual game-play beyond standing in town firing a gun twice. Borderlands via Steam no longer working by John on Thursday December 17th 2009, 20:14 I realize that this has already been stated, but it seems like a recent update killed the functionality to play this game. I've tried reinstalling and de installing the game as well as several dll's from winetricks and trying it in different Windows compatibility versions with no luck.
