Anything beyond trying to run the app from the Applications > Wine > ... menu. Didn't try to check logs, look for workarounds, etc.
Additional Comments
With Wine 1.1.42, after installation a dialog box appears stating that the application installed but failed to launch. Under Wine 1.1.41, the installation would "silently succeed" (the installer dialog would appear, the progress bar would move quickly to the right, and the box would disappear).
Nothing works for me

I've been trying to install this application for about a week. I've tried every tip I can find that people say solved the problem for them. Nothing works. Always the same error.
fixme:system:SetProcessDPIAware stub!
No other errors. It just exits and doesn't do anything.
He uses the original beta version of KindleForPC, so it works fine under wine, only Amazons later release versions of the application seem to break in wine.
Same problem

No luck with current Amazon Kindle under Ubuntu 10 LTS. It seems to install fine but then doesn't start. I've tried the win98 config trick and it doesn't make any difference. I also tried to locate an older version of the software but couldn't find the smaller installer one people have said should still work.
KindleforPC not launching
by Derek Tattersall on Tuesday May 4th 2010, 20:33
I have Ubuntu 10.04 with wine. I used winecfg to set the settings to Win98 as suggested above. The Kindle installer runs, but when I try to run the actual KindleForPC application it gives this message:
K4PC version MUST be older
by Greg Laden on Friday April 16th 2010, 0:47
It is essential that the installation file for the Kindle for PC reader be a particular version which, as I write this on April 16 2010, is one or so versions back in time.
This earlier version is ca 5.2 megs, as opposed to the newer version, which is about 6.0 megs.
still can't get it to launch
by Dan Kruitz on Sunday January 24th 2010, 14:19
I've been able to get it to work in the past with ubuntuo (9.04?), but with a fresh 9.1 install no dice. The uninstall program works though? Using the win98, DPI and screen resolution tips at best, I get a teal screen pop up for a couple seconds with nothing on it, then it goes away.
Any ideas on what else to try?
My Kindle Content folder is not created
by Anton on Monday December 7th 2009, 14:37
after installation of Kindle for PC, no folder named My Kindle Content is created. Thus, book downloading always fails - book is downloaded into temp dir, and then not copied to non-existing folder.
Possible fix for font display problem
by Don on Monday November 30th 2009, 20:23
I've just discovered the following with Crossover Office -- perhaps it holds true for mainstream Wine as well...
1. Make sure win_version is set to win98 in winecfg (or setup winecfg
to run KindleForPC.exe in win98 guise)
2. In winecfg => Graphics tab => 'Screen Resolution' has a default
of 96dpi => change this to 110dpi or bigger => Apply
Restart kindle and see if that helps - you may have to experiment
a bit with the actual dpi value to suit your setup/taste, but there
was a marked improvement in crossover wrt font rendering using this approach.
If anyone running Wine would like to try this and report back, that'd
be kind.. ;)
Menus work in win98 mode
by Tommy Broset on Tuesday November 17th 2009, 18:31
The menus work if you use winecfg and set C:\Program Files\Amazon\Kindle for PC\KindleForPC.exe to run in Windows 98 mode. The balloon windows will still appear with parts of the letters missing however.
fonts

I tried (unsuccessfully) to get the fonts to display by installing new components with winetricks. FYI these do not solve the problem: vcrun6, vcrun2008, tahoma, liberation, corefonts, droid
