Additional Comments
before install use winetricks to:
Install IE5 or above (PSE8 needs it) and flash (not sure if it needs it but it is an Adobe product...).
Install vcrun2003, vcrun2005, vcrun2008, and vcrun2010 (PSE8 needs c++ librarys and will error without these).
then install PSE8, It may seem that the install is hanging but just wait (up to 1hr) and it will proceed without errors.
I accidentally installed it on the windows version of win 2000 but I changed it to win 7 and it works great.
using 'wineboot -k' and 'wineboot -r' commands is probably needed to get PSE8 to open and run the editor without errors (I had to do this a couple times for some reasons). Switching from the trial version and entering a serial seemed to help so I didn't have to wineboot each time I wanted to open PSE8.

Element 8 install in Ubuntu 10.4
by Peter Richardson on Wednesday October 27th 2010, 11:19
Installed OK on Ubuntu 10.4 and seems to be running ok. Running WINE 1.2
Only thing was it seems to hang on the first install screen, but it you leave it (in my case about 1 hour) it eventually lets you click next and then installs fine. Note this is an install from a licensed disk with a valid licence key.
PhotoShop and wine 1.3.2-1
by james J Catchpole on Monday September 6th 2010, 10:36
I installed the latest version of wine on my Fedora 13 System; I used the Source Tar Ball to install it. However, when I attempt to install PhotoShop Elements 8.0 I get a failure as follows:
The msiexec.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Disregard that. I should upgrade it to bronze. I got it working under those configurations, but it crashes a lot. I was able to save a thing or two though.

Photoshop Elements 8 installation
by Arthur McDonald on Friday August 20th 2010, 15:21
For what it's worth I got the same results when installing PSE 8. That is, the process stops once you get to the screen where you are supposed to enter your country then license key. You can enter the key, but cannot enter country. The install will not let you continue without entering a country.
