What works
All single player content and cutscenes, browsing through the available server list.

What does not
Connecting to a multiplayer game.

What was not tested
Playing multiplayer.

Additional Comments

The reason for multiplayer not working is likely because it uses DirectPlay. After installing DirectPlay, the game failed to start. Singleplayer works flawlessly though.

Doesn't work - can hear audio, but no video

I've a weird problem with both H&D Deluxe and H&D2+SS: the game starts (I can hear NVidia'a advertisement and then the game music) but game screen doesn't show up. If I run H&D2 with Wine's virtual desktop, then I just get an empty (blue) wine's desktop and can hear game music.

I have NVidia Quadro NVS 140M card and Nvidia's drivers installed and it works fine for other 3D games; wine version 1.1.21.

Do these games need any special wine or game settings to run?

Multiplayer

It's possible to run the game online with all kind of multiplayer maps (deathmatch, occupation, cooperative, etc.)

I don't know why, but now all you have to do is to follow the instruction on wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlayGames

...after that run "wineprefixcreate" (without the "") and enjoy the game.

Older Versions of wine wouldn't support the Directplay instructions. But now the game runs perfect. It's only impossible to run the game as a server. ......but maybe at anytime :)
