What works
Nothing.

What does not
Nothing works, when Steam tries to install the game, it throws the following error: Incomplete Installation of Serious Sam HD (53)" This seems to be caused by the Steam update which affects Modern Warfare 2 on Steam too (bug #20736).

What was not tested
The game wasn't tested with a no-steam crack, this could maybe solve the problem (will test it out ASAP).

Use Wine 1.1.34 or newer to install the game

The game can only be installed using Wine 1.1.34 or newer.

However it's recommended to use the latest Wine version to install it without doing anything.

To install the game on older versions you'll have to bypass the "Error 53" problem.

Use the patch from the following link: bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=24845

Then compile Wine and run the game.

New prefix, only Steam installed and it will not run
by Jonathan on Sunday December 27th 2009, 15:03

Before i post a bug, did any of you get these same errors and fix them by installing something? I know that when the game tries to run for the first time it tries to run a MS VC Redist and DirectX Redist MSI, which also appear to fail because they will want to reinstall if i check the game integrity.

Sound and me
by Bas Koopmans on Wednesday December 9th 2009, 7:39
I do not know how people have sound issues with this game. It works flawlessly here. I can even use the ingame voice system without issues.

I installed SSHD in a clean wineprefix (running a single steam instance in multiple prefixes). Before I installed the game I ran winecfg and setup the virtual desktop, set the sound API to ALSA and closed winecfg.
Then I ran Steam in the same wineprefix and installed SSHD. Sounds and music work and I can hear others when they speak to me over voice. They can hear me too.

So no. No sound problems at all.

Game world turning cyan
by Bas Koopmans on Wednesday December 9th 2009, 7:33
I have seen that turning on AA can cause the game to render some camera angles as completely one colour. In my case this is cyan, but turning on Noir or grayscale colours makes it gray.

Simply turn off Antialiasing ingame to fix this. You can still enable AA in your graphics drivers and it will work, though I leave them completely disabled.

random framedrops
by Manne Dyrver on Sunday December 6th 2009, 22:55
It seems to do that in Windows for some people also, even some have hickups that make the game stop until they tab out and back in. :p

Works
by noCLUE on Sunday December 6th 2009, 13:18
Working here
HD : First encounter

but FPS drops down suddenly at random locations in the game but no crash
Sound is still a problem with wine as it stops randomly, but i guess it must have to do with "No love for Pulseaudio" had the same thing in assassin's creed.

Get past X3Daudio errors.
by Manne Dyrver on Monday November 30th 2009, 21:58
in your Usersettings find SeriousSamHD.ini and change or add if not there.
sfx_iAPI 0=none 1=OpenAL 2=DirectSound 3=XAudio2

Type like "sfx_iAPI = 2" without quotes in the sfx section for easy access.

Error 53 workaround
by Bas Koopmans on Saturday November 28th 2009, 5:31
If you get the Error 53 message when trying to install SSHD, the following patch will get around that

bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=24845

Applies cleanly to wine-1.1.33.

With this patch, the game will finish installing and run well enough to get to the main menu.

There is however still the problem of not being able to load the levels from the All.gro file.
